Is it me or is largemouth bass getting hard to find here?

I have no problems finding the smallmouth around here, but my ratio right now is 30 to 1.

I'm out here in the belleville/ford/huron river.

i'm out in the detroit//sterling heights area and it's the complete opposite for me. largemouth bass are a dime a dozen to me, i rarely get out on LSC or detroit river where there actually are smallies. i'm usually fishing inland lakes.

What inland lake are you fishing? If you don't mind me asking. I may have to take a little trip there.

I haven't had much production in the Lansing area this year, maybe I should make a visit to the family down in the Detroit area to do a little fishing.

I'm in Northern MI and the LMB seem to be doing just fine. Actually on a primarily SMB fishery I caught 3 more LMB than SMB this week.

I have yet to see a bass on a bed this year. My "keeper" count is way down so far this year for bass, although the number of fish caught isn't too far off from previous years. I can't blame it on anything but myself, but i can't figure it out, and it's bugging me a little. I'm working on it.....

I'm up in the North Woods as well and I'd say the SMB have the majority around these waters too. But you can still bag a few quality LMB you just have to fish a bit shallower. Another plus is that so few guys fish for bass at all ~ nice.

Is it possible for the smallmouth to take over the population better than the largemouth in certain lakes? It sure seems that way now.

A mom and pop's store informed me tournament anglers are going way out in open water around lakes that drop off to 1'-30'.Sounds like they are shying away from the current and hanging out by the opening channels into the main lake.Problem for me is it is only accessible by boat.  :'(

Also told me smallmouths are having better spawns than largemouths are having the past 3 years now.Which is why the explosion in the smallmouth population. They are trying to encourage people to C & R the bigger ones.

Fish around the islands on Kent Lake and you'll be on LM's.

Thanks! This is the third suggestion to try Kent lake this week now.

Looks like a small road trip is in order. :(

The bite has definately been tough so far.  Then Again, I'd rather catch a bunch of smallies over LM any day.  Headin up north next week fishing my way down from Hillman to Fenton  and can't wait to see some bronze  :(

Hillsdale, Branch and Calhoun counties seem to be doing well with LM.  Went to a tournament where 5 for over 19lbs were caught in a 3hr tourny.

In Oakland Co. you can find plenty of Largies.... Try Lake Oakland, Orion, and Maceday.... There have been some large sacks pulled from Maceday this year. And they're plenty of 5lber's to go around also.... 8-)
