Watts Bar Smallmouths?

Featured Replies

My inlaws have recently moved from Lake Guntersville :'(. to Watts Bar (they live on a houseboat).  I'll be heading down the second week of April and have been gathering maps and info on the lake.

Some maps say that there is a healthy brownbass population.  Anybody have expirence on the lake?  RW, do you ever head East to Watts Bar?  Thanks in advance.

P.S.  Yeah, I am the only guy that likes visiting his inlaws!

Yes - Watts Bar does have some very nice bronzebacks.  They can be very difficult to locate at times, but you're going to be hitting at a pretty good time.  I'd check out the mid-lake area and target primary and secondary points with a vareity of presentations until you find what they're looking for - You may run into some nice big green fish, too!  Good Luck.

Thanks Bronzefly, I appreciate the help.  My inlaws live in Spring City so that puts me about on the lower 1/3 of the lake.   I'll definately take a ride up lake.

From Spring City to the fork of the river - all good stuff.  You'll definitely find them that time of year!  Good luck to you.

Most of the smallies will be done spawning by mid april in my opnion. Try some of the steeper rock banks, and of course you'll still find them just about all over chasing the shad which there are plenty of my friend. I have seen some very large brown fish caught above kingston but there are fewer of them there. Get ready for some large 17 1/2" fish that will totally crap-up your lures. You shouldn't have to make any long runs to catch fish, it's been taking around 12lbs to win local 3 fish tournys.

Good luck and let us know how you do.
