Frogs

How many frog fans do we have here? I have a couple of the original snagg proof frogs and tournie series ones. I know they are effective around pads and matted weeds. Are they worth throwing and do they work as good or better than say, poppers or buzzbaits?

I love frogs!  If there is thick stuff or pads then im throwing one.  I use the Mann's toad and Snag Proof.  Frogs are great big bass catchers.  If there weeds go with a frog, open water a popper and buzzbait can be good too.  I will say though if there is open water with a little weeds or cover then that Mann's Swim Toad can out produce a buzzbait at times.  FROGS!!!!!!!

I too agree, frogs are great for alot of reasons. If you fish  a horny toad, you can fish them on top, or let them sink and then swim them back. There are so many good frog baits out there. The Rage Tail should be real good also!

I use frogs use frogs once in a while.  I know it's kinda child book but if you drag a frog across a lily pad just let it set there and twitch it for a couple seconds.  As soon as you move your frog to the next pad get ready for a huge strike. It works pretty well the fish are all up in the slop

I am partial to the Spro Bronze eye frog. I have found great bites fishing them around wood cover. The back of the bait is flat which increases the hook up ratio tremendously.

I like throwing the black one in muddy water starting in the spring.

I fish them on a fliping stick with braid.

They can be cast into laydowns and fished back out slowly, the hate it when I do that. ;D

Man, just talking about it makes me want throw one. Give it a try.

Ribbit, ribbit! One of the largest bass I ever caught in my younger years was on a frog! It was a small LIVE frog that I caught by the pond and hooked through the lips and tossed out into the middle of the smallish pond we had sneaked into. I watched as my line moved slowly around and then it just plain STOPPED. I figured the frog had "bit the big one" so I yanked the line and a huge bass flew from the water's surface with the frog hanging out of it's mouth. I will NEVER forget that glorious sight or how excited I was at that instant! TRUE STORY.

As far as frog lures go, I LOVE all the topwater stuff. Frogs, Hula Poppers, Jitterbugs and on and on and on. IMO - nothing can compare to a bass or any other species of fish exploding on a topwater presentation. It's AWESOME!!!

I like'em too. Not mant things more fun than see'in a frog get smashed in the thick of things. I too think the Rage Tail's are gonna be awesome this year. Good fish'in.

i like to use frogs..but my favorite brand is spro..i think that the hook up rating is better then the rest and u can cast them way way further

When is a good time to start throwin' frogs?

Ribbit Ribbit ;)

Secret: try em as jig trailers

When is a good time to start throwin' frogs?

For me, this weekend. The fish here are moving to the shallows to spawn. Last summer, I fished frogs most of the time.  A friend and I had some unbelievable mornings on them. I can't wait.

i use scum frogs and spro frogs as far as "topwater".  if fishing subsurface then i like the zoom horny toads.  haven't trie any other because have had good luck with zoom.  put the paca toads are on my list for this year.

anytime i see weeds that reach the top of the water i fish a frog.  i don't feel you need any more colors than a black, white, or yellow bottom.  not to concerned with the rest of the bait because the fish sees the bottom mostly, match that color to the water clarity!!!  i also fish them in open water around cover.  if the surface kind doesn't work, which i usually try fisrt, then i move to the horny toads.

Thanks guys. I will be froggin' the slop lots this year. Should I go with heavy mono or a braid/fluoro setup?

I love frogs too.  Just make sure you put the lid on the skillet, sometimes they jump out ;)
