I need information on HUNTING RUN for Sunday please...

Featured Replies

First off, I've done the search and read the previous topics on Hunting run but wanted to start a new one to get everyone who has already posted about it to provide some information that maybe wasn't discussed earlier. I'm going out with my dad for fathers day and have never been here before and would really appreciate any heads up advice as for as the lake goes, I'm providing a map for reference

1. Where is the launch?

2. in case it's windy which areas hide from wind the best?

3. any information on particualr areas the stand out based on the map, please be specific as to where you're talking about (stump fields, timber, submerged structure, rocky points or coves etc.)

4. any particular technique or lure that has been producing, colors and sizes if known... I'll probably start out with my set-ups for topwater early morning and then spinnerbaits, flukes, senkos and tubes unless otherwise advised or something strikes me out on the water...

5.  I appreciate any input, we're not beginner fishermen so you can talk in depth to me.

Was just out there earlier this week.

The launch is just above the road on the right that runs through the lake...its a gravel road with a sign. you cant miss it.

I did not have great success...just a bunch of dinks on a white spinnerbait.

Some areas are extremely grassy so prepare for that.

A guy working there said some guys have had some luck using wacky style worms.

Overall I would say just be ready to fish through some grass.

Thank you, that' good information! I love grass and timber so bring it on, was the grass submerged or on the surface?  if submerged how deep was it? how deep did it run? any idea?

also are trees around those coves i see tall?

Nevermind for me at least, we've decided on Lake Jackson instead as it's much closer and we need to be home, plus we're gonna test out the outboard. I'd still like to know that information on Hunting Run though.  I plan on being there in the near future with Rob

The entrance to the lake facilities is 2.2 miles from the stop light on Rt. 3 at Chancellorsville. It is about 1/2" just above the "A" in Arrive that you have on the map. The part of the lake to the right of your mark is not accessible.

I was just out there this evening.  Water was crystal clear.  Didn't get to fish that long. got out about 6 and fished til 7.  I managed 4 little guys and had one probably one and a half pounder on a popper but managed to get off somehow.  The first was on a zoom trick worm as soon as it hit the water and the rest were on popper.  From the little time I was out there they seemed to be hitting pretty well.  As I said I didn't really have a chance to do much damage.  But I wouldn't shy away from top waters early and late.  Just make sure you give them a chance.  Also, it seems if you can get your bait anywhere close to some cover you have a really good chance at getting a fish

Good luck out there Sunday and I hope some of this can be of some use to you.  I fished in a cove on the other side of the boat ramp across from the first island.  If I had a trolling motor I would have been able to cover some more ground but I didn't. But, get out there and slay em.

Thinking about going this weekend also, haven't decided.  If we go out Saturday, I'll let how it goes...or maybe I'll see you on Sunday
