So my buddy calls me and asks me what I'm doing over Labor Day weekend.  Apparently, he has the bug to fish someplace new.  Twist my arm...OK, I'm in

We're both in ATL, and we're looking for something in reasonable driving distance, ~3-5 hrs or so, to fish a day or two and hopefully hook up with a guide.

Yes, I know it'll be hot, and on a holiday weekend -- not the most desired conditions, but not terrible either  We thought the same thing going to Fork over Memorial Day, but that wasn't an issue at all.

Anyone have any advice on where we should target with good late summer fishing?  Guide recommendations?

Lake Guntersville has been pretty good this year. Most folks are saying that it's some of the best fishing they've seen in years. I know that I've had some pretty good luck this year.

~9 hr drive is a bit more that we're willing to deal with for a weekend trip.

I agree and would use Tim Chandler or Spinnerbait Kid as a guide.  Tim has more experience and many of my clients have gone out with him in the past and were happy with their trip.  You will save a little money with Spinnerbait Kid but he is good and always seems to be on good fish. Guntersville seems to be the hot lake this year in the South and will still be good at that time with all the grass in the lake.

 If you choose to got to Guntersville you will have a blast. Think of catching an 8lb bass on topwater frogs in the weeds. Talk about exciting. I went out with a guide when we were there that I would recomend again and again. He was an absolute blast to fish with and he was on some great fish. I learned allot from him and he took good care of us. He even stayed after and marked up my map so we could stay on fish all week. Talk about a great guy. His name is Jeff Reid. Another place to check out is Lake Seminole, GA. Its about 4 hours +or- from ATL and its a fun place. Ive gone to the Lunker Lodge in bainbridge the past few years and have had a blast each time. There are a lot of guides but Leon Weaver is my go to.
