Discontinued Plastic QUIZ

Featured Replies

I didn't want to hijack the other lure quiz thread.  It appears the other one seems to be mostly hardbaits, and I thought one dedicated to discontinued plastics would be interesting.

So post some pics of your DISCONTINUED PLASTICS in this quiz.  Ideally, they should be types that many of the members might remember, not totally obscure ones.  You don't have to answer the prior one in order to post a new one, but it would be best when guessing one to also include the username in your guess, because it might get a little confusing if several pics are posted in order.  Might bring back some fond memories.

Here is something from my collection.  I looked all over the web, but couldn't find a pic, so I took one from my stash.  I still use them when I want to fish a plastic that I know the bass haven't seen.  You might have to belong to Team Depends to get this one.

No, its not made by Creme. Here is a hint, the company was purchased by Pradco, and I think only offers 2 lures anymore from the old company. ( The only pic I can find on the web is a cover shot showing many lures from the company's 1963 Catalog. But the worm is so small in the cover pic that you can't really quess the worm from it)

The last time I saw those was in the old Netcraft Catalog the old black and white one, before Janns took it over. I can't remember the name. What part of your garage did you find those in ;D

It is remarkable all the different ways they have tried to get a worm where the fish are 8-)

Don't know anything about Netcraft or Janns, so I don't know about that.

And it's in the northeast section of the garage, second rubbermaid tote from the bottom. Don't have the exact GPS coordinates... I know, I know... the garage is a mess. :-?

Ding, Ding, we're half way there.  The company is LAZY IKE, now... what's the worm's name?

I was going to answer AKFrezy7 that he was getting on the right track because in 1978 the Creek Chub Bait Co. was sold to the Lazy Ike Corporation, but Muddy got the company faster than my fingers could type.

I was trying to think of it, the Name that came to me was DeLong, but that was another company all together They made a lure , before Hannon called the DE LONG SNAKE> Pradco still has a couple of thier products

here is one of them not the snake

Well it sounds like a great idea .. maybe I should change the name on the first topic and turn it into "Hardbait quizz" and yours would be "softbait quizz" ....

Anyway, I'll try to find a few of those mysterious antique softbaits (though I suck at identifying old plastics) !

Long live the "Discontinued Plastic Quizz" ! 8-)

....and I don't have a clue what these lures are.  :-?

I guess this one was tougher than I thought.  The old worm I posted is Lazy Ike's Wigly Crawler.

Is that a Wobblehead spoon?

Nah, It's just not a 50 dollar Japanese lure, It catches fish for a meeesley few bucks

No, The Lazy Ike Wigly Crawler's metal bill has LAZY IKE stamped into it.  And the bill is attached to a painted lead ball and hook.  Although the worm does have a nice wobble action when retrieving it.  And it surprising how soft the plastic remains after decades sitting in the packaging.  There are two exposed hooks, with a thick type cord running from the front hook to the back hook, inside the worm.  I have several in the 7 and 4 sizes.

Appears I might be the only one crazy enough to keep old plastic worms for decades on end.  How about this one?

Hey, just seen the Lazy Ike bait that started the topic. It might be the Wigley Crawler on your package, but when I started throwing them back in the early 70's it was called the Jig Crawler. I used it mostly as a topwater in very clear water. Had to keep the rod high and reel fast enough to swim it on top. Very effective at times.
