Fishing the Potomac River

Featured Replies

I will be heading out tomorrow with a buddy of mine to the Potomac. It is supposed to be a decent day and cabin fever is just killing me.

I'm looking for anyone who has been out there this year and has found bass in the area of Aquia Creek. I don't really want to leave the Creek yet this early in the year.

From Hope Springs you cn go left and into the creek with the houses, pier and docks. But the water can get dirty if it rains.

Go right and under the bridge. Fish around the bridge on the west side, the marina side.

Then fish the left side of the mouth of the creek as you are leaving the creek.  Lots of grass.

Check out the crab pots at the mouth of the creek.

Fish the shoreline where ever you can.

Have to go have dinner.  Maybe Rondef or others can add to your thread.  :)

Is it ice free in Aquia??  Up around the District there is still a lot of ice.

Earlier this year we went out and headed up Aquia from Hope Springs. We didn't have much luck. I know how to catch these fish I just need to find them. So we are planning on heading to the mouth of the river to fish the channel by the pilings. We may even go to some of the flats in Aquia and try the drop offs.

I plan on throwing a blue/black hair jig with a rage tail chunk trailer; a red crank bait - 6-8'; and a white/red/goldish spinnerbait;shaky head once I find them

How was the fishing Joe?

Terrible... We fished from 11:00- 3:00 and we couldn't find the fish at all. It was windy.... very windy so we had to go up river. But nothing other then a nice day it sucked.

I'm just happy I got to go out  ;)

Sunday was a beautiful day to get out, so I headed over to Dickerson power plant, warm water discharge. Saw about a dozen people fishing the shore line, and 5 or 6 boats in and out of the area. I did not see anyone hook up. At the tail of the water discharge, I asked on guy on his boat what the temp was and he said it was 47.
