Rapala Sub Walk and a Zoom Baby Brush Hog

Featured Replies

The fish in my 3 acre pond behind my house and the 55 acre lake across the street are extremely pressured (by me ;D ) and weary to hit anything cuz I fish them so much. I am constantly having to try new lures I've never used before to get them to strike. So I happened into Sports Authority today and bought 2 lures that I've never used before:

- Rapala SubWalk

- Zoom Baby Brush Hog

The verdict is in, 2 thumbs up on both. Caught fish on both... so I guess I will use them until the fish catch on in a day or two.

Anyone else used the SubWalks by Rapala yet? The one I got is a WalkTheDog SubWalk. I think they are referred to as Wake Baits this season. I'm curious how you normally work them for success? I was popping them along the shoreline. The brush hogs I was pitching into beds and getting strikes.

i bought a couple of those sub walks when Dick's had them on sale a few weeks ago.  I haven't had a chance to try them yet.  I also picked up some of those new deep x-shad and deep x-raps.

Baby Brush hogs are great. I like them in somewhat clearer water and I catch somewhat better numbers on them than the full sized brush hogs.

Yeah, I sat there in the store and debated between the normal size brush hog and the baby size. The baby was still quite chunky where I felt the full size might be spooking the fish as it hit the water.

I use the full size in murkier water or when I'm after bigger bass. Still have had plenty of 13 - 14" bass wolf down the full sized one though.

Went out with the Baby Brush Hog again today. Landed 4 in the 2 to 3-lb range. Also missed my biggest Bass ever, what surely would have finally got me to the 10+ lb mark :'( She wacked the hog as I pulled in close to a grass mat and promptly headed for open water. She was stripping drag off my Stradic like nobody's business and as I raised he rod tip I heard a "tink" as my 8-lb Floro snapped right where it was tied (line to line) to my 10-lb PowerPro running line :-/

Thats exactly why I wont use a leader!! Its just another weak spot in the link!! I would suggest using a black marker to the last 6-8 ft of that braid, your only using 10lb PP anyways thats real small diameter. I have 20lb on my Stradic and can cast any bait a mile!!!

i just caught a 4lber on the subwalk on sunday! :( good bait.

I use a leader also but I use 20lb power pro and a 20lb leader. The BBH is a great lure. Florida bass love them in any kind of water.

Went out this evening at sunset and fished for about 30 mins with the Brush Hog. Landed 7 Bass in the 3 acre pond behind my house. The one thing I noticed is those things get tore up really easy. Went thru 3 of them on 7 fish. In all fairness, the fish were all pretty decent size like this:

Only made it halfway around the pond too before I ran out of Brush Hogs, the skeeters were eating me alive, and it was too dark to even tie a knot. I think I've found my new favorite lure of the month ;D

Baby Brush hogs are a great bait for C-rigging. I use to use them for pitching soft wt'd plastics but now I'm on a Ugly Otter kick.

Zoom baby brush hogs are one of my ABSOULUTE favorites!!! I can't count the number of bass I've caught on them. Fav. colors are: Red Shad, Pumkinseed, White, and Baby Bass.

:( 8-)
