i really like using buzzbaits, poppers and even porpeller type topwaters but im really clueless when it comes to the walking style   ive tried the spook before without much success    i want to fish topwater alot more this year   ive been thinking about buying the LC Gunfish   but i decided to asked the guys on this site first so...

Try the Lucky Craft Sammy 100. It is the easiest bait to "walk the dog" with that I have tried.

Without spending a fortune on a Japanese plug try a Heddon Spittin Image. Used to be made by Excaliber. It works as easy as any out there. All walking baits take some practice, and the larger ones usually are easier than the small ones. Use at least 14lb. line, but not flourocarbon because it sinks and will pull down the nose of the bait. Start out by giving it a twitch but immediately give it a little slack by poiting the rod back toward the bait some. The bait should go forward and then turn right or left. As the bait coasts to a stop twitch then slack again. The bait should go the opposite direction and repeat. The first sideways turn is the hardest and the key is the slack after the twitch. I don't find the gunfish to be the easier of the walking baits.  The sammy is good, but expensive.  For cost and quality I like the Cultiva/Owner Tango Dancer.  Great looking bait (very similar in look to the sammy), it has owner hooks, and you'll save $5.  They crop up on Ebay fairly frequently.

Just get a few Spooks and replace the hooks.  You can just about get 3 Spooks + hooks for the price of 1 Sammy.

I like the Yo Zuri Hydropencil and the Lucky Craft Sammy.  They are end lures but they are easier to walk and have better hooks.

ok guys thanks  i have some spooks but i think im going to buy a sammy100   i dont mind spending extra money if it  caughts fish   thanks again    i hope it works out  

I do like the regular old spook probably better than any of the newer walkers, though I have NOT tried the Sammy or the Skitter Walk. I need to though.

The spittin' image is a good one too.
