Observation shoal

Featured Replies

I going to okeechobee out of clewiston sunday. Im headed to the obervation shoal area. What would be a good choice for lures at first light in the eelgrass. I heard that the swim bait bite is good after the sun rises. Can I get some last minute info?

Thanks

I haven't been there in years but good luck.    If the grass is just under the water surface then I would try a Zaraspook at 1st light.   After that I would throw a Fluke.  I would also have a rod set up with a jig or a T-rig plastic and flip the grass pockets.

skinny dippers, topwater frogs and like doug said a big spook. 21 pounds took the bassbusters today. good luck kevin

I was almost going to suggest that but probably in gold.

It was a bit windy and choppy on the lake today. No observation shoal today. The ESE wind made things tough.

I caught two keepers on a junebug trickworm on the cut in the fringes of Ritta island. I placed 5th with 2 fish @ 3 lb

The winner had 10 lb on 3 bass and the big fish of 5 lbs fishing around cochran pass.

I never do very well at the O. Probably because I dont fish there much. Alot of cover, so many places to go. It seems like when I go

fish there, I have well set plans- rods ready, etc - but I end up fishing with trick worms because it is my go to bait when I am doing poorly.

I have got to fish there more often and find a couple of reliable spots.

LOL, I find myself doing the same thing.  Take only 2 rods next time and limited selection of tackle, you'll probably do better.

But hey, 5th place isn't bad and I know that wind was crankin.

You were oh so close to a winning stringer, I came in 2nd Saturday with a nice sack, a kicker away from 20 lbs, and I was very close to were you where fishing, so don't be discouraged, with the exception of being lucky you don't just go to Okeechobee and do good without pre fishing.

Some of the guys in my club pre-fished last weekend and friday.

One of them won and another other caught undersize bass.

The others caught a couple, and finished 2-4 place.

I could have caught 2 bigger bass in 10 minutes in the canal behind my house.

It was a windy, bluebird then overcast, kind of day.

Our club has a knack for picking post front sundays 1-2 months in advance. We should work for NOAA.
