Fishing around Oxford, MS

Featured Replies

Anybody do much fishing in the Oxford, MS area? I know Sardis Lake is right there and have heard mixed things about that lake. My girl is in Law School there and it may be my home after graduation for a few years. Just trying to see what that area offers. Thanks.

Sardis is most noted for some of the biggest

crappie in the world! Bass fishing can be excellent,

especially for numbers.

All of the info I can find on Sardis is about the crappie fishing haha. I might have to make the drive to your area RW. Pickwick isn't THAT far  ;D

However...Things are VERY slow right now.

As the weather warms, the action will pick up.

Won't be fishing anytime soon. Maybe later this spring or in the summer. Just trying to get a heads up.

If you go straight up 7 from Oxford you will copme to Wall Doxey St Park.  The lake there isn't big, but has alot of standing cypress trees.  It's your best chance for public big bass.  They rent boats there, it's not big enough for actual bass boats. It's a great secluded smaller lake.

Sardi is a good lake as mentioned before.  You also have Grenada Lake, Enid Lake and a little lake to the northwest called Puskus Lake off of Hwy. 30.  I've been fishing all of them since I was old enough to hold a rod.  I don't live in the south anymore but visit as often as I can.

Good stuff guys. I'm gonna try to do a little more research next time I'm down there. Thanks for all the tips.

I used to fish Sardis a lot before I moved.  Get a map and find a creek called Blackwater...It is hard to locate in a boat on the water unless you have a gps point but you can get one by finding the creek and use Google Earth to get the GPS.

Sorry to take away from your question, but does Ole Miss have a bass team?

No problem. I know I fished a collegiate tournament a few years ago and they had a team there. They are also listed as a competitor on collegebass.com.

Razorback, it looks like that creek runs by the Wyatt Crossing Public Area. Are you talking about that cove or the actual creek channel?
