Pickwick Help

Featured Replies

I am fishing pickwick for the first time ever this weekend.  We are going to put in at Waterloo boatramp.  Could someone please give some advice on where I should start fishing?  I am new to the sport and I need all the help I can get.

Thanks

I meant to write what type of areas to fish.

I have not fished the Bear Creek area, just up north near the Pickwick Dam in TN. Great water, and this weekend sounds promising with 60+ degree temps warming the water. I've had success with the texas rigged worms, black with blue tail as well as red eye shad (bronze or silver) and rapala jerk baits. Best of luck and let me know how you do. Maybee I'll see you there, I'm going to try to get out on Saturday!

I fished pickwick today and caught about 35 fish.  All but 8 were small.  I had one that weghed 3.8 lbs.

Water was real clear and water temp started at 43 and ended at 46.  I had a great day fishing.

What were you fishing with if you don't mind me asking?

I caught every fish on a Green pumpkin finese worm.  It was rigged on a 1/8 oz spot remover.  I missed about 10 strikes.

I also threw a red eye shad, spinnerbait, shad rap all with no luck.

Saturday I spent two hours targeting smallmouth

without success. Switched gears and moved off

the main channel to fish gravel banks targeting green

fish in 4'-8' of water. We had excellent results with

Xr50 traps; some luck with small Wiggle Warts and

6 1/2" GYCB Kut Tail on MegaStrike Shake2 jig heads.

If TVA increases water release for the expected rain

this week, the water may push up into the weeds.

This combined with warmer temperatures should

move the fish into the grass.

My suggestion would be lipless cranks, Rage Tail

Space Monkey and Smokin' Rooster. Weedless and

weightless Senko and Fat Ika are other obvious

choices.
