Agreed, it's really horrible, but 3 minutes from my place.

I was curious about the color of the bass in there and the species..I don't think they're largemouth, they look more like spotted..............or maybe they're severely stunted.

there are some big musky in there too.

Why do you think they're spots?

I fish there several times a year because it is relatively close to my home town. The lake has gotten better in the past couple of years, but still isn't as good as many other lakes in the area. And yes there are some monster muskie in the lake. I have seen them circle people in kayaks on top of the water. Maybe the craziest thing I have ever seen when fishing. The bass are largemouth but I agree that many of them have strange patterns, or lack there of, on there body. I have also seen one that had orange on its sides, but I'm sure that had something wrong with it.

I guess the reason was the size, dominating size seems to be 12-15 inches 1 to 1.5 lbs, markings seem evident of spotted, spots on the belly particularly. Smaller mouths  and generally just completely lacking largemouth colorations.

Can shallow, pea colored lakes that get a LOT of sun alter their markings over time?

I had a guy tell me that bass can get sun poisoning in shallower lakes......never heard that one.

I got a reasonably decent fish there last week and he had no banding no discernible markings and a much smaller mouth.

While obviously a bass, I'm just not convinced it was a largemouth.

I also thought that the fish could be spotted bass in the lake, but when I rubbed the tounge of the fish, it was smooth like a largemouth's. This is what makes me confident that they are largemouth and not spots.

Well thanks for the help on that.

I was going to check the tongue on the next one I caught.

I'm not sure what's going on there, but the bass action, while

Mostly small has been above average.

Been killin' em on the ragetail craw.

shoot me a PM if yo ever want some company. I live about 10 minutes from it.

I highly doubt they are spots. That'd be an awfully strange and random location to have stocked spots.

I used to fish there when I was at JMU. I also fished the lake on campus and a few spots on the river.

I agree I have never caught a spot from any of the lakes or rivers here yet...Not to say there can not be any here but I have fished that lake a good bit and have never pulled out a spotted bass.

I like lake Shenandoah but the grass there is really bad and gets wrapped up in my trolling motor a lot.

I agree with the comment on rage tails there. Watermelon red flake= automatic. I would also be more than happy to meet up with someone to fish with sometime. Just let me know.
