Actually I will be there for a couple of days and staying in one of the cabins with a couple of guys from Connecticut.

Great thread. I've recently changed careers and now have time to fish. What a relief. Been exploring local Charlottesville lakes that I had never fished and learning a lot.

For my first time fishing Briery - say this Friday, would you mind providing some tips Wayne ( or any tips you'd share about CHO area lakes?).

Thanks so much. Really enjoying being back out on the water again - even if I did launch my boat across the lake without me last Friday (Bowler's Mill). :)

hey Wayne P you think you could send me a map of the briery creek hotspots? Im 15 and i go there every once in a while, just wanted to know the good spots. :)

well that is getting right to it eh. That takes balls. The kid deserves a bone with that subtlety.

Eksmith, I don't know of any "hot spots", the whole lake is one.

I can suggest a pattern based on when you are going to be there with areas that match that pattern. The "hot spot" will be where you catch them at a particular time; that can and will change at any time and any place.

What is your fishing experience level, your craft, electronics, and tackle?

i looked for this thread the other day and couldnt find it, glad it got bumped. Wayne is definatly the person to ask about briery, hes defiantly got a method its something to see him work his way up the lake, methodical is the word.

I've been bass fishing for about 4 or 5 years now and i go to briery with my cousin and he's got a 16 ft bass tracker don't know what electronics he's got though, we went a couple time last summer and we didn't do much....any help would be nice

Anyone fish Briery this time of the year? I was thinking about giving it a try and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions? Thanks

I do if it isn't frozen. I base my presentations on the water temp. If the surface temp is below 39. I fish the bottom, Above 39 and I start looking shallower and have caught them on Traps in less than 5' depending on the weather trend. Warming up=good, cooling down=bad.

I got an e-mail from someone that went there yesterday. He had called the Worsham Grocery to check if they knew if it was frozen. They said it wasn't. He went to the North end and a lot of it was. He couldn't get to an area I suggested he try. He didn't catch anything and the water temp was 38. He talked to someone later that had been to the mid lake area and there was some open water there.

Wayne, have got any suggestions for shore-fishing Briery Creek this Saturday? Any info would be great, even what rods to take. I did see some pics of Briery, and it seems it's a sea of stumps. Are treble hooked baits out of the question?

I went through most of this thread. About the finesse presentation with 30lb braid you mentioned; do you use a leader?

P.S. I've never been to Briery before.

EDIT: I also sent you an email.

Deep im also curious about the shore fishing at Briery creek since I do not have a boat. Folks I talk to say yes you need a boat, but that lake is so big there has to be some good areas to fish somewhere along the banks.

luv2fish, there is a large shore fishing area at the North end with three docks to fish from as well as all around the gravel parking lot. Just go to the lake at the first entrance where the Game Commission sign is and go to the end of the road.

The water temp at that end of the lake was 46.4 this morning.
