have you had much luck with top water? i see some crank baits and some soft plastics (one looks like a Moto creature) which do you have the most luck with?

Pics of some of my larger bass last year from 7 different small public Northern Colorado waters. Six of these particular fish broke 19". They were caught on a variety of lures. All taken from shore or float tube.

Will be going to Colorado for the first time in June down by Castle Rock. Any help for places near by to fish from shore will be appreciated.

Sorry I don't fish down there. There are public ponds and reservoirs of various sizes around there though. Check the Colorado DOW (Division of Wildife) site and search Colorado fishing and check for public waters around Castle Rock and South Denver.

Chatfield Reservoir is in the Littleton, CO area - about 20 miles north of Castle Rock straight up Hwy 85. It's only about 1000 acres max. but does have some good smallie and walleye fishing.

There is also a public lake in "The Pinery" on Hwy 83 just south of Parker that has largemouth and wipers. If you snoop around you might find some other smaller ponds dotted around those areas.

I fish Chatfield eight or ten times a year and have had varying success but mostly from a boat. You can walk the riprap all along an extensive dam area and throw 2 1/2" tubes on light heads (1/16 oz) and some lipless cranks and weenie worms and should do OK.

Actually I think the info tends to be better on coloradofisherman.com, but ice'll probably disagree  .  Both are pretty good informative websites.  And Chatfield is great for smallies, a little hit or miss for walleyes.  Quincy Res in Aurora is a better largemouth lake but is no scent, no salt, artificial lures only.

The no scent no salt restriction has been repealed on the Western Colorado warmwater lakes, but I'm not sure about Quincy. We will work on that too.

Scented lures will be legal again at Quincy starting May 1st. Thank you very much Western Slope Anglers and Colorado Bass Clubs for correcting yet another DOW blunder.
