I never purchase clear or translucent hard baits.  Under what season or circumstances do they excel?  

Clear water, bright skies, topwater.

Doesn't always work, but when it does, it works very well.

I have had some good days with a clear spook. I don't think I've really noticed any key environmental conditions that a clear topwater exceeds in, but I like using it  ;D

I have used clear poppers and spooks, and they do work well under bright conditions with clear water.

You guys are forgeting one, clear baby brush hogs. Not only clear hard baits catch fish.  8-) The ultimate clear water spawn bait.

i use a clear/baby blue small pop-r on table rock lake just after the sun gets up to catch a ton of bass!

A clear pop - r, spook, or crazy shad is great on calm cloudy days in really clear water.
