After reading a number of posts here and some reviews elsewhere on the web, I am getting the idea that the Zoom Trick Worm is supposed to float.  I have a bag of them and can attest to the fact they sink like a rock.  Is it supposed to float?  Are mine defective?  Do some colors float and others do not?  Mine are white.  Any tips on fishing these worms will also be appreciated.  thanks.

Right you are, the Zoom Trick worm sinks like a stone.

Then you've got the Z-Too, which strike king refers to as a "slow sinker", but it floats like a kite.

Let's face it, the manufacturer has a different agenda than the angler, so we need to do our own homework.

I think the term "floating worm" that most use for Trick size woms came from the original floating worm by Danny Joe Humphrey that would float with a size 3/0 hook. Nowhere on packaging or advertizements is the term "floating worm" used to describe a Zoom Trick Worm. It has become a generic term for that style and length of plastic worm. It's like today's Chatterbait, copies of of the original are called Chatterbait even though they are not.

I have some trick worms that float, and some of them sink very slowly.  The ones that sink I use a hypodermic needle to put a bubble in their tail so they stand up on a shaky head...  I don't know why some float and some don't, whether it is the way they were produced, or whether the older ones float, or what...

Your definately right.  Trick worms fall faster than most senkos, but it has alot to do with your hook.  While I haven't found a hook that allows it to float, a super light wire hook will make it sink extremely slow.  I really like how the trick worm and other straight tail worms act with a 1/0 Gamakatsu round bend offset shank hook.  It won't float, but it will stay high enough in the water column that if you twitch up, the nose of the bait will flick around on the surface.  

The reason for throwing the 1/0 size is because I have found that it is easiest to get that "walk the dog" action out of the worm with a small hook.

It is because of the salt content that controls the sink rate.
