If memory serves me correctly this is a altered picture. I surfaced several years ago and was researched to b an urban legend. When it first came on the scene it had pictures of a mangled body along with it that were claimed to be inside the bear when they gutted it.

The picture is not altered but it is not a world record,, this was a bear that had killed a couple of hikers.  However, the guy and his buddy were set up on a trail waiting on this bear to come to them... it is a large bear, but you photography and video guys (LBH) know that camera angle is everything when it comes to size and perspective.....  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

OOPS, did I say that,, my humblest apologies to the creative camera work of LBH and the crew......

I know as a TRUE fisherman, he would never stretch the truth!!!!!

Ive never been hunting before, but I shoot sporting clays. I see the fun in shooting and hunting for turkey or deer cuz u can eat em, but hunting for lions and tigers and bears is pretty disrespectful IMO. i would get no enjoyment out of killing a bear.

Thats is a wonder of nature, hopefully that thing reproduced so more can be seen of those huge bear. Those bears are said to be the most dangerous animal on the planet when enraged. I surely woulding shoot that one under 100 yards. Peace boys.

I have seen that shot before somewhere, seems like a magazine.  I don't see how a camera angle would change the size of that paw.  His hands are practically in the same plane.

A regular black bear can tear up jack, let alone what a monster that size can do.

I saw a film of an Alaskan Polar Bear Hunt.  The hunter and guide were flying around the ice flow, located a large bear, landed, jumped out, ....All the while the bear was on a dead run to catch the "bird" before it flew off.  The hunter finally dropped the bear a few feet from the plane.  I don't believe the guide could have kept the bear from getting at least one of them.

No death wish for me!  You younger fellows can have the big boys.  ;D

During the early 70's I worked for the American Sportsman Club where I had the honor of meeting Fred Bear, linked is the story of The Bear that broke the jinx. In the story Fred kills a huge Polar Bear with an arrow!

Catt, the site has a great story that brings back memories of Fred, had to put it in my favorites.  I feel sure that Fred Bear is the major reason for archery hunting being so popular now.  If you are into hunting this is a great site and history that will likely not be repeated.

I was into archery once, probably due to Fred, walked up on a black bear on my deer bait pile (on my own property) and he 'woofed' at me and ran like a bowling ball through the thicket.  I froze when he woofed and the thought went through my head, "What am I doing here"?  I was deer hunting at the time walking to the stand and didn't have my 357 backup.  I certainly wasn't good enough to try a bear and decided to quit hunting deer with a bow since I want accurate instant kills.

My hat is off to Fred for his contribution to sport hunting and anyone else who takes the time to become an accurate archer.

Oh, BTW, bear meat is good to eat, a lot like beef.  Our black bear population is about 3000 in NC.

Nice bow.  :)  Mine was something like that, 45 #.  I knew bow hunting might not be for me when I plunked an arrow into the ground in the middle of a group of six deer standing directly below my tree stand.   ;D

I was just thankful that I didn't plunk one in a non vital spot.  That's when I learned that you have to practice from the tree as well as the ground.  I should take it back up, we have a long bow season and a short gun season.
