Ice Covers The Midwest

Featured Replies

This is a lot bigger than a day out of school.  We are no strangers to ice storms here in the northeast.  They are brutal on a community in a number of ways.  Hope  all our Okie members are safe , boats too!!  Watch for falling branches!!!

Send some of it our way!   ;D

We've had nothing but RAIN for the past 5 days!  :-/

There's nothing worse than a 40 degree day in the pouring rain.  Especially when it's supposed to snow this time of year.

the only reason why they are declaring a state of emergency is b/c they can't figure out how to sand/salt roads, trim trees.... the officials down here suck, im in college down here at OSU and from kansas.  They just don't know how to handle snow or ice or anything

Well, more than a dozen people DEAD and 500,000 without electricity might have something to do with it, too.

I live in Northern Illinois and it hasn't hit my area yet. Looking at the radar screen you would

think we were getting blasted, but I just had my Rottweiler outside and it is just 28 degrees and

kind of foggy. It is supposed to hit us sometime after midnight. My wife is a teacher and they have

cancelled school for several districts in anticipation of this storm.

True,  they SHOULD learn how to drive in the ice and snow, maybe they can start learning as soon as they get that tree off their car.   ::)

JT- 28 degrees and fog,....sounds like it's already there.

Fare well all.

It's been brutal here in SE Kansas.  We've been pulling and cutting limbs and trees off the streets for two days.  About 1" ice everywhere, without power at home for two days, and still raining.  I had to cut limbs to get out of my garage this morning.  More freezing rain after midnight tonight, I can't wait.

You have got to be kidding

Had the same thing happen here in Ardmore {Southern Okla} about 5 years ago. I was out of power for a week here in town, some in the country were out for a month. The OG&E maintenance yard here {the electric company} had to have the local police department come out to provide secutity for the place because many ticked off people were causing problems there. You could look out across a field and see the power poles broke over as far as you could see. The water treatment plant lost power for about 4 days and the whole town was out of water, what a mess. Walmart did not loose power though. Needless to say there was not a single battery in the store for several days. Not even a cheap remote control with the batteries included, or a Ken and Barbie flashlight. We missed out on it this time. I just got all my ham radio antennas back up and working properly again so Im waiting for mother nature to take them back down,,, somehow.
