I ran a drag car for 16 years. Set some national records. One was a 1967 Chevy Nova. 6cyl.(258 c.i.). with a doug nash 5 spd. IHRA ran SS/3K and set the e.t. record 4 times and the m.p.h. record twice. Best 1/4 mile pass ever was 11.912 at 128.63 mph. Ran NHRA with it with small block chevy and a powerglide. Ran SS/LA. Best pass was 11.287. Other car was 1963 Corvette F/MP. Division four land of the Good guys. This car set 7 NHRA records. It was co owned by myself and another friend of mine. Small block chevy with a nash 5 speed trans. Don't remember best pass but car was consistently .5 and .6 under the index. Ran both cars coast to coast. Ran the world finals nine years in California(Never won them though) Vette consistently in the mid to high 10s.

Before I got back into fishing, cars were my passion.  Mercedes, Porsche and Lamborghini all called my garage home. :)

Now cars don't really do much for me to be honest.

When growing up the US car manufacturers would make a big deal about introducing each new model year.

It was fun to anticipate how the GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles would look for each model year. And I remember the 1958 Chevys with their winged tail lights.

Today, all of the cars continue to look the same and there are no longer anticipations about the new models.  It seems all the car companies want to do is have year-end sales to get rid of the vehicles.

So I have lost a lot of interest in cars.

I do love seeing the old 50s and 60s models and it is always great to see a Vet or Viper or T-Bird.

But until the car manufacturers go back to the good ole days the new cars are just vanilla and I think many guys who grew up with Chevys and Fords have just lost interest.

Really showing our age :-[but what Sam said X2...

That 's because you have set your priorities right, now it 's a Hummer which is obviously to tow that munster Ranger you just bought, otherwise what would you want a Hummer for, am I right ?  :D

You are absolutely right Raul.   I was hardcore into fishing up til about '03, then the car thing just took over.  That phase only lasted a shor time.  I'm now back into fishing for good. :)

What do I do?  I sell Raul all his JDM tackle.   ;D

To me it was not cars ........ it was dogs, own, show, breed and then show my puppies.

Man, glad my wife don 't know how much I spent in showing just one dog for one year, she would hang me from the nutz ..... and I owned 12 dogs, yikes !; all the dog fancier hobby ended when we found out she was pregnant of lil Raul, that day I said no more dog showing and breeding for showing, the family comes first.

Woah if i am ever wealthy to a certain point my garage would be a car collection.

Woah if i am ever wealthy to a certain point my garage would be a car collection.

And then what?  Ask any wealthy person what they are lacking and it would be "quality time with the people I'm close to"

Redline is in line ;)

it's not like you can't still have toys,....Hummers, spider's, Rangers....etc, it's just that you start to tailor your toy list to accommodate what is lacking.

I drive a Jetta but am surrounded by some of the best people you could ever meet, most of them fish....I'm richer than most.

There is no quality time better than time on the water with a buddy or your significant other ;)  IMO  This is where I find my "inner peace" and Peace can't be purchased ;)

Amen.  I meant it too, cars get old.  It's all just stuff.  I much prefer to be out on the water, fishing with my dad, or friends, or my girl.
