I needed a laptop for college and other needs. So I custom built me a Dell XPS and it arrived a lot faster then I thought. Well instead of staying home and mess around with it I had to go out to town.

While dad was home he told me Dell's customer serivce called and asked if my laptop arrived as satisfactory.

I dont care what you think that is excellent customer serivce. :)

Sounds good to me!! especailly when you consider how many computers they ship out a day.

I'm glad you've had good experience with them, because I surly haven't.

My next computer is going to be a Mac anyways...

We had a Dell for a few years. Everytime we called the tech line, you get someone with a THICK Indian accent. Very hard to understand. Then I saw a show on Discovery how these big companies are moving all tech and customer service to India and hiring college aged kids. It's supposed to help them learn English....very frustrating.

Glad you had a good expirience. FWIW we bought a Mac 2 years ago, and I haven't had to call anyone for assistance with ANYTHING......

How much more did the mac cost compared to a similar HP or Dell?. If so, was it worth the extra cost?.

I ALMOST bought a new Dell laptop.....in fact even ordered it through QVC.  Then, when I came up with a question before it was delivered I contacted Dell's tech center for help.  The question was, "Does it come with an Ethernet card installed ?".  In short, it took me 20 minutes to make "Punjab" understand what I was talking about and to get a "yes" back out of him.  During that time, I understood probably 1 out of every five words he said.  I decided that if this was what I was going to deal with every time I had a problem they could keep it and I cancelled the order.  If you have a problem with Symantec software (Norton), you'll get the same type of phone service.  Best thing to do is use the online chat feature if they offer it.  They type in English really well ;)

I have a few Dell computers at work and they have been rock solid so far.  When I have had an issue the Gold Customer Service they offer is second to none.  You also get to speak to someone that hasn't had English as a second language.  They all seem knowledgable and willing to work with you on just about anything.

$1199 20 inch iMac

2.0G Core2 Duo

1G Ram

250G hard drive

Granted a Mac will always be more expensive nobody can argue that fact. The benefits of a Mac:

Not having to deal with a M$ operating system.

No spyware

Very few viruses

I got a Mac my junior year in college and will never go back to a PC.  Haven't had a single problem after several years (after going through two PC's in as many years), and the operating system is so much more user-friendly and practical.  Unless you're big into gaming or need a laptop that's compatible with software from your job, you'll be much happier with a Mac.  I have Virtual PC on my Mac also, so if I need to use software that's not compatible with Macs, I can still use it.  Pretty good deal  ;D

Oh, and Macs are prettier  :-*

I was raised believing mac's were the devil. I purchased a dell last year and really haven't had any problems. Granted I'm not a huge fan of vista, it hides things to the point its pretty much idiot proof. But if you can't figure out how to fix a problem in a computer working a microsoft OS then there's not much some guy can do over the phone in a different country.

Dells are ok, I got a IBM thinkpad and it has lasted my four years of college.  If I were to buy again right now it'd be a macbook pro.
