Cigarlover 1
Hey Avid, thoughts a prayers are with ya my friend! Obviously I don't know exactly what you're going through but I can relate. I currently take medication for anxiety and depression. I agree whole heartedly about the medications. The adjustment period can flat out SUCK. Stay positive though and you'll find your way through it. Â
Guest avid
Once again. Â BassResource.com proves itself to be the absolute best bass fishing site on the web. It's not just a bass fishing site. Â It's a brotherhood. I can tell you that I receieved several great PM's from members. Some like cigarlover went "public" so to speak. Others have excercised their right to remain private. For those of you out there who may have an emotional or other condition that you are shy to reveal because of potential stigma. Â That's cool, but don't feel isolated. Â Scan the thread and find someone you feel comfortable PM'ing with. Â I don't know of a single example where a confidence has been violated by this fabulous, and growing group of dedicated human beings who happen to share a love of bass fishing. Good luck, have fun. Â And God bless us - Everyone.
skillet
Avid,  I have been following these threads since you started them (trying my damnedest to figure where to go after starting this) figuring a lot of us share more than just our passion of keeping tackle manufactures fat, happy and rich!  You might remember when I wrote to you about "maybe we'll talk someday". Well, I thought I would write after your thread about meds (without getting to deep with 8,000+ folks looking on).  Last Spring I had to start a regiment of drug therapy and the side effects are so bad that they won't let you start without agreeing to take anti-depresents (you have to take these drugs for at least 48 wks.).  Let me say here that I was never a believer in pharmecutical (spelling) sanity!  When I started this they started me on so many 'scripts at the same time, I didn't know which side effects went with which drugs.  I seriously felt like I was living a Pink Floyd song "You raise the blade, you make the change. You lock the door and throw away the key. There's someone in my head and it's not me". Man that sounds strange, even to me!  After getting used to what was supposed to be happening, I realized, I probably should have started something like this back when I got out of the service. Maybe it would have saved me a lot of grief over a lot of years.  After saying that, I'm still not sold on someone messing with my head this way. Helps to know most folks feel pretty much the same way...                               As Ever,                                Skillet  Still don't know whether to hit the POST button.......................... Guest avid
Skillet, I admire your courage in coming forward like this. These things are so complex that it can time to "get it right" Then, like in my case after several years of balance, things change. How depressing  : Seriously.  I don't know how long since you have started.  But it can take awhile to start feeling better. I mean this as encouragement.  Hang in there dude. It may seem like your lost in the fog but you will notice, little rays of sunshine peek through.  Not all at once.  Not even on a daily basis.  but if you have a good doc. Trust him/her.  And BE HONEST. One of the things that screwed me up in the beginning was not being totally honest with my doctor. This led only to more problems. This is a troubled path, but it is a path nonetheless. Follow it with the purposeful intent to get better and you will. I wish you all health, happiness, and many fat bassies. your compadre, avid

Super User Long Mike Posted February 25, 2007 Super User Share Posted February 25, 2007 Although my problem is not anywhere near as debilitating as most of the above posts, I have a condition known as Essential Tremors, which means my that hands shake. Â It has not kept me off the water, but trying perform detailed movements like tying on a hook are an ordeal for me. Â A simple Palomar knot can take me as long as five minutes. Â Although the condition has gradually worsened as I've aged, I have been blessed that it is not Parkinson's.
Guest avid
There is no question in my mind, that anyone here would be happy to tie to knots for you. I was pm'ing with cigarlover the past few days. Â I happened to mention that one of the reasons I like to fish alone is beciause I often will just pull into a cove and practice tying knots and leaders. Â I find it relaxing. Â If the sun is shing and the birds are singing, who needs to catch fish? everyday is a blessing dude, whatever pleasure you can draw from it is precious. your friend avid. Super User Long Mike Posted March 8, 2007 Super User Share Posted March 8, 2007 Many thanks for the offers of support guys.  Russ, you are too generous.  Give me a coupla days to  think of how best to exploit your generosity.  Truthfully guys, I gat through every day with no problems at all until necessity requires that I perform fine movements with my hands - such as trying fishing knots.  I can still shave without cutting my throat (but one hand has to steady the other)  I can still write, sorta.  I'm more shakey in the mornings because caffeen aggavates the problem - and I love my hot, strong Cajun coffee. Don't worry about me, I'll do just fine.  Let's turn our thoughts to Avid and wish him the very best
Guest avid
Long Mike, Many thanks to you and all the great guys for the generosity of spirit found at BassResource.com and no other fishing site in the world. I'm taking it day to day but I am by no means the only person in need. Your situation is very real and distressing. Â A quick fix might be some large sized snaps tied onto heavy braid. Â I'll bet it would last pretty long before needing a retie and I suspect that the bait shop boyz, or practically anyone you might meet at the lake would be happy to retie for you. It would be nice if good things always happened to good people. Â Alas that is not the case. So we find a way. I have found that I MUST believe their is ALWAYS a way to overcome whatever horrible situation I may find myself in. It's their. Â Find it. with deepest regards, avid
Super User Long Mike Posted March 11, 2007 Super User Share Posted March 11, 2007 Avid, I am not what you would call a religious man, but St. Francis of Assisi coined a phrase that we have all heard  and that I have lived by for many years, namely, "Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."  Throw in the Golden Rule " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and I have a pretty much everything I need that allows me to sleep well at night. It's obvious that you are a good man, so I can wish you only Serenity, Courage and Wisdom at this point of your crises.
radiob
I have just sat and read every post on this thread. All i can say is, WOW. I know there are such things as brotherhoods and such, but never ever in my short life have I expirenced anything like this. I commend each and every one of you and wish the best of luck to all of us in what ever mountains may come our way. I am not religious, at all, as a matter of fact you could call my religous outlook, not good, but I do beleive in a higher power, and for whatever that may be, I do hope and pray for each and every person that crosses my path, even those that may not need my help along the way (what ever help that may be). what I do beleive in strongly is human spirit and this thread in and of itself is what human spirit and a friendship and brotherhood is. I have not met any one person in this site(that I am aware of) but please believe me, next time I am out on the water, or standing in the middle of the most beautiful water ever seen by man, and I start to get frustrated, there will be a smile on face because I will be thinking of all of you and what you have done for so many people in this community as well as those many of you help outside of it. If there is anyone who ever needs anything in the Missouri Ozarks, please pm me and I will do everything in my power to help. AND THAT IS A PROMISE. fishbear
radiob, This thread in my opinion, is exactly what this forum is about. Â People helping others, no matter how big or small the problem might be. Â That is why even if I quit fishing(God forbid) I will never quit coming here, and sitting down and talking to my friends. Â The people here are one of a kind and can never be replaced, only added to.
skillet
Â IMHO. I doubt VERY seriously if any of us would have replied to this thread, if we didn't believe the very same things ya'll have said. When I signed up, I wrote something to the effect of wishing to share a boat or pond with everyone here. I still feel the same way.......except X3... Low_Budget_Hooker
I think the fit is actually quite common, Glenn has just provided a gathering place. In general, you're fishing partner is often a long term friend. Â Many problems have been hashed over with a best friend on the water, it's just a natural place to work things out and a best friend 's opinion or support is most often welcome. This site is where we gather when we are not afloat. Â In a sense, Glenn has made another honey hole that we can share with people from ALL OVER THE PLACE. It's no surprise that although many here have not met in person (yet), we find the same relationships building that we normally build in a boat. Welcome to the dry dock boys, pull up a chair and join in the brotherhood. Â Who needs a bass club when you have a whole bass community. RecMar8541
Well guys, not an easy post to make, and to be frank, not to willing to expound. Â PTSD yep I can relate. Â Chugbug let me just say I know exactly where you are coming from. Â It gets better with time, when the mind dwells, send it elsewhere, to something better. Â its odd, but as I sit here staring at this post screen, Im shaken, torn between letting loose, and bottling up. Avid, you floridian you...if you ever need help....you yell.....I am not that far away...ever. Recon usmc 1985-2006 mos 8541
Low_Budget_Hooker
recon- Welcome to the club. Â No need to disclose anything, if you feel the desire to, we are here. Â Support and respect of the others, as you've shown, is the only pre-requisite for the BFFF club. A very big welcome home to you also. RecMar8541
Thank you I appreciate that! I guess the reason I posted is to let anyone else who has PTSD know you are NOT, echo NOT alone. Â It is a real problem, and has some significant effects! Â At times it has dictated when I would leave the house, where I would sit in a diner, How I would interact to people, especially loud and disorderly ones. Â Imagine having something as simple as garbage day cause you to not want to venture out because of all the stuff on the roadside. Â It may seem silly, but to me it was horrifying. Â Then there is the depression that comes along with realizing what humans are capable of doing to one another, leaving you depressed, and feeling very much like there is noone and nothing you can trust. Â The amazing thing is that you learn to aclimate your life to this, and see life as you live it normal. Â If any of you deals with this, to whatever degree, please feel free to drop me a line. Â I have a long way to go to be sure, but, The first step for me was finding a kindred spirit who had been there (thanks dad). I have to say, I thought this forum great until I started reading here. Â It isnt great it is FAR better. we band of brothers......
