and #4.  The racer decides to find something a little smaller, and the rattler is wondering who was biting his butt

um, I guess that will ruin your day. After all it is not every day you almost get eaton by another snake.

Those freakin' Black Racers. There are several different species of Racers in the US. Here in Virginia, ours is the Northern Black Racer (Coluber constrictor constrictor). When I'm snake hunting, it's the one snake I usually don't bother to pick up because they are so nasty. By nasty, I mean MEAN. They are full of spit and vinegar. The bite, repeatedly, musk, poop, and they never seem to calm down. It is the ONLY snake that has ever actually gone out of its way to attack me. Despite their taxonomic name, they don't constrict. They run their prey down and eat it alive. The usually chew whatever they catch to a pulp before they swallow it. They are cool snakes, though. Very opportunisitc in their feeding habits. They'll eat anything - rodents, other snakes, roadkill, etc. They are great snakes to have around. They'll keep other critters in check.

Here is the one that came at me. He even tried to crawl up my snake-stick to get me. Very testy fellow...

and the kiss he gave me

I have a pet ball python which i call Fred.  I love snakes and other reptiles and amphibians, and I love to catch them.  The only snake i dont like is a cottonmouth moccasin.  That is the only snake that has ever went out of its way to bite me.  I was fishing in a creek and i saw him on the opposite bank and here he came swimming the creek onto land and was coming straight at me then he stopped and looked at me and I could tell he was mad from the musk he was releasing then he just zoomed after me so I zoomed away.

Micro you own any pet snakes? I am just wondering.

I've got a pet cornsnake. I've also got a pet Eastern King Snake that I "rescued" from a slow death. It had been attacked by something and had big gashes in it. I brought it home, and nursed it back to health, and she's a member of the family now. I've brought home and kept short-term dozens of snakes (but I don't do that anymore unless they are injured).

My rule with snakes is I leave them alone and if they do not leave me alone they catch some .357 magnum CCI bird shot!
