SANTA ROSA - A boy in his mid-teens learned Wednesday afternoon that it is not a good idea to try to rob a former U.S. Marine at knifepoint, even if the former Marine is 84 years old, police said today.

Santa Rosa police Sgt. Steve Bair said that's what happened around 2 p.m. in the 1600 block of Fourth Street. The elderly man was walking with a grocery bag in each arm when the boy approached him with a large knife, Bair said.

The boy said, "Old man, give me your wallet or I'll cut you," Bair said. The man told the boy he was a former Marine who fought in three wars and had been threatened with knives and bayonets, Bair said.

The man then put his bags on the ground and told the boy that if he stepped closer he would be sorry. When the boy stepped closer, the man kicked him in the groin, knocking him to the sidewalk, Bair said. The ex-Marine picked up his grocery bags and walked home, leaving the boy doubled over, Bair said.

The man reported the attempted robbery to police 45 minutes later.

Bair said the teen is described only as 15 or 16 years old. Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department.

Good for him.  It's nice to hear that there are still some folks who stand up for themselves.

If we are really fortunate the kid won't be able to re-produce!

My cold hearted approach assumes that the kid was not bound for bigger and better things.

That is what I am talkin' about!

Having lived ny Quantico for a couple years there are some really bad Marines out there regardless of age.

ahahahaaha

The old guy should have taken the knife and given it back to the punk as a suppository!! IMO!

This is true for evil doers all ways return to a foil crime scene to retry it again and I'm guessing he will not bring a knife next time

We had an Marine who served WWI, WWII, and Korean War a month or so who had similar experience.

Was at home, two guys knocked on his door, before opening, he stuck small derringer type pistol in his pocket.

The guy opened his door, and was over powered.    He was cut numerous time around the face.    Once the Marine regained his composure, he commenced to popping some lead.    Both fled, one ended up going to the hospital due to being shot.

    I'd leave the Vets alone.

Good for him after all hes been through that little punk is gonna do something like that. That just goes to show you how much of a coward he is because he goes after the elderly then gets beat down by them. To bad he didn't put him in a coma. That guy shouldn't have to walk he should be carried anywhere he wants along with any war veteran.
