Hey, we did something like that 30+ years ago with a Flexible Flyer sled and an old Chevy station wagon. Sharon cops didn't have any sense of humor then, either.  ;D

HEY,....SO DID WE!!!  :D (we just never stopped, lol)

Note to all- Kneeboards don't work for this. Life almost ended, thank God for the helmet, lol. We ended up using a $20 plastic snowboard from Benny's home and auto.

Much better on grass also. The cops had no issue when we were in the "certain store" parking lot but when we moved it over to the high school,.....they followed. Party poopers, way to much snow to damage the grass...

Hate to be a downer here but I had a classmate in school who I kid you not was decapitated doing this. I was very young when it happened but she somehow slid underneath the car or truck pulling her and somehow lost her head.

Most of us should have died 50 times from the stupid things we did as kids.....

UPS trucks were our favorites for "bumper riding" Plenty to hold on to

Yes.  Just remember, the cops will never think it is as funny as you do.   ;D

Man, I wish we would get some good snow down here.  We have not had a good snow down here in YEARS.

Throw a snowball and ride a sled for me.

Great pic, BTW.

EJ, we are getting our fare share in Wi, I'll see what I can do about getting some your direction.

As far as the "winter sports", we did plenty with a 76 MonteCarlo and a tobaggon out on the flowage.  Looking back, it was insane!

Three days of snow is enough. I'm over it.

Well matt's point of view is different,....he's a UPS driver the week before Xmas! NO JOKE THERE. 2 words, BAD TIMING (Since my position change, I'm done by 12 every day, regardless. Tell me I'm not truly grateful for that THIS week, lol)

Riding bumpers was always fun, in RI we call it "skid-hopping" or "skitching". For those who aren't familiar, you don't actually get on the bumper, you squat behind the vehicle and grab on to the bumper and let the car pull you. Feet stay on the ground. It's like waterskiing where the truck is the boat, the snow is the water and there are no skis or rope. Get it?

Anyway,...It's always a blast till someone hits the steam defrosted man hole cover.

FACEPLANT! :-?

It's called skitching in my neck of the woods too.  So far there's been several kids put in the hospital this week from skitching.  A few are in critical condition.

And you wonder why the cops don't have a sense of humor about it.

Snow Skitching BROOKLYN STYLE" On the older green buses we would grab onto to lip of the back bumper of the bus and fly down Vanderbilt Ave! The risk of breaking your neck was where the adventure was!

Muddy was not a smart kid, neither was his cousin Joey: One day me and said cousin Joey were Skitching the Vanderbilt Ave bus, right past the intersection of St.Marks Ave WHERE MY DAD"S BUTCHER SHOP WAS!!! Two blocks down past at Dean St. there is some guy behind the bus beeping his horn like mad, so we were shaking our butts at the driver and Joey salutes him with a Brooklyn Bird, and the Bus has to stop at Pacific St. We both get gripped up by our collars it was MY FATHER AND MY UNCLE TONY!!!!!!!! That day did not end so well

I remember skid hopping well, we rode the back bumper of the school bus all the way home in the blizzard of 78, we were spinning up a hill and the driver yelled all you guys out and start pushing. Imagine what kinda trouble you'd get into now if you said that to the kids on your bus.  And the tractor trailers were great too with thier ICC bumpers. ;D

Our version of it, 40+ years ago, involved an old Willy's 4x4, about 50" of chain and an upturned hood from a 57 Chevy. Had the chain attached to the Jeep, welded the other end to the hood, flipped it upside down, and piled on. The local golf course was our usual destination. Lots of hills to shoot and trees to ram.

Too many injuries to list, but the ones that come to mind are: several concussions, two broken wrists, one broken collarbone, lots of stitches, and one kid who lost two fingers.

It rather escapes me now just why we thought this was fun.

Read back,....wasn't referring to skitching when the cops had input.  It was where we were, not what we were doing.

It was known as bumper dragging here and as a kid it's what we lived for come winter.

And yes looking back on all of the stupid things we did as kids, I sometimes wonder how much fun my kids a missing out on :'(

In my opinion it must suck to be a kid in todays society.
