There was an accident the other day on our home lake... still one body that's not been recovered...  sadly, it's the brother of someone close.

I hate reality checks like this.

Last week was the three year anniversary of my brothers best friends death on a lake

he was a great guy and had everything to live for.

Someone drowned on our lake last year and I happen to be out of school the next day. I had 10 text messages and miscalls wondering if I'm ok. Lot of my friends knew I fish and they heard it on the news and was hoping it wasn't me.

One thing I noticed while on Ike's boat this year was that my life vest had a kill switch on it.  I asked him about it and he told me that it was in case he got thrown out of the boat.  He told me of an incident when that happened to him.  Fortunately he was with Ish Monroe, but he didn't have a kill switch on his vest.  Ish skillfully held the switch down while driving the boat back over to Mike to pick him up.

Ever since then, Mike has had a kill switch on his passenger's vest.

Good idea, and cheap insurance for a few bucks.

Yes, it was Belton.  It seems like we have a couple every year.  We already had one at Stillhouse (5 miles away) this year.

My boat has the older style kill switch where there is a manual switch, and if the "ring" is pulled free the toggle switch is flipped.  So anyone could flip it and be back in service.

Will pray for you and those in your community, and the family of those involved in the boating accident.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I made a promise to my family many years ago, to wear my PFD while in the boat. Normally, if I'm fishing with someone, I just wear my PFD while the boat is under power. If I'm by myself, I wear it all the time.

I wish we could convince everybody to wear their PFD, but so many guys think it's not the macho thing to do.
