Wish me luck

Featured Replies

I've been battling some borderline health issues. On my last doctor visit ( a month or so ago ) doc gave me a prescrip for Cholesterol issues. It had a very painful joint side effect so they had me stop that med.

I got ticked at myself for getting myself into that position and I decided enough was a enough. I am going to do a combination exercise / diet combo to maybe solve the issue the natural way.

I'm shooting for 3 x per week @ 45mins ea on the treadmill. I'm not setting any Olympic records but its a start. I'm surprised at how easy it actually is and how much I kind of like it.

Work and kid events have thrown some curve balls but I've managed to keep the discipline to pick up where I left off.

The only dangerous aspect so far is turning my head to look at the beautiful women. You tend to wander sideways on the treadmill which can be a little hazardous!

So far it has been a little more than a month

Wish me luck!

Good luck  , the hard part will be putting yourself on a good diet.

Just put your nose to the grindstone and keep with it.

I got a bad health report last spring and it was either go on several meds and be at risk for diabetes and heart disease or lose weight.  Diabetes and heart disease runs rampant in my family and I DON"T want it!  I lost 57lbs in the spring of 08!  All my problems went to a level that I don't need meds.  I'm still overweight and plan on dropping more.  I'm telling you...it feels GREAT to lose that much weight!

Keep it up and I really do wish you luck!

The whole getting in shape/being healthy thing can be hard. I went from being 260lbs at age 18 to a healthy 200 in about 5-6 months, The diet can be the hardest part but there is alot of food out there you can eat, just gotta research a little. As for the treadmill thing try doing H-I-I-T cardio, its alot more fun than just your going at the same pace for so many mins. It involves walking fast then sprinting then walking fast thats what i did and loved it. Haha just my thoughts, But Good Luck! hardest part is starting and you  did that ;D

 Thanks guys,

good job on successes by several of you.

  Drmnbig right there with ya.

Boett - I hope to work up to that.  Right now it is just the treadmill. I go to the track to cool off a little. I'll walk a couple of laps around it then I run one then repeat once before I go home. Amazing how much easier it was than when I started. Trying to take it slow starting out so as not to do any damage. The running no not sprinter material but is already much easier. I already changed some on the diet. When I splurge and eat out I eat salmon. Might not be the healthiest Salmon but better than steak I'd guess. Doing some portion cutting and chef salads here and there. Still need major changes but it is a start.

Starting is hard but I think the hardest part is re-starting when your routine gets disrupted. Feels good getting both accomplished though.

Thanks again guys. I'll use this thread as a motivator to update progress.

Good luck, stick with it bud, I'm going to school studying exercise science to be a personal trainer so if you have any questions feel free to PM me

So, I guess joining me at the hungry heffer buffet is out of the question, huh?  Well, I'll be happy to join you wherever you want to eat.

If you want to admire many attractive women folk simultaneously, you'll have to position yourself strategically so as to avoid whiplash.  Oh, and try not to trip on your tongue. ;)

All the best, Matt.

Your health is number one so do all you can to regain it.

I now swim four to five times a week and have cut out all sugars and as many carbs as possible.

I am down from 216 to 185 and on my way to my goal of 178.

Honestly, I feel great and I want you to feel great, too.

So keep up the good work and sooner or later you will be like me, a fantastic guy in the bedroom and a person who is feeling super.  :)

Good luck to you, I am trying to lose quite abit of weight too.

Still hanging in there and still doing approx 3 x per week. Man it feels good I should have done this 20 years ago.

for anyone considering starting it is much easier than I ever thought it would be.

Still doing 40 brisk minutes on the tread mill. Then 2 walking laps on the track followed by 1-2 laps running then reapeat once. About an hour total ea time.

The dieting is a little harder than I thought but I try to keep it in check anyway. Lets see where the excersize gets me.

Thanks again for all of

the support!

PS Sam that reply was a classic gave a good chuckle.

approx 2.5 mo's in to this and still doing fine. Trying to stick to every other day routine.

You guys were right the diet part is the hardest but I'll get there.

The exercise part has to be a step in the right direction. I can't wait to see the doc's face on the next appointment. My numbers have to be greatly improved from where they were.

I would also like to say there are several foods out there that will help ya with lowering that cholesterol as well.

I was 24 and diagnosed with high cholesterol. Take some fish oil, eat some plain ol' fashion Quaker oats. That should help, keep up the exercise you'll be just fine.

Just came across your thread. As a fellow Illinite, I wish you the best. Keep it up. I used to train people as a part time job in college and if you ever have questions just let me know. I would love to give pointers and answer questions. Your routine is right on. Btw, a buddy and I are headed your way to fish over spring break. This week can't go by quick enough.

Still hanging in there with the every other day. I've been gradually turning the speed up on the treadmill. I actually got it to a speed today to have to jog on it. Not for too long but some never the less. That may not sound like much to some but for a guy who was approaching a Santa Claus figure its a big step.

Up to 2 walk 3 jog then 2 walk and 2 jog on the track after the treadmill. Again not much too some folks but after a 20yr hiatus its an accomplishment for me.

Today I even stepped foot on an elliptical! They ought to have a sign that says "no one over 35 is allowed near this machine"!

My next doc visit is in a couple of weeks. We'll see what its done to the numbers after that.

If all goes well in a couple of weeks I might put the other foot on the elliptical!

Wish me luck!

Matt, Good work man! Graduating to the elliptical? In a couple of months you'll be banging out the 300 workout:

Keep at it. We're all pulling for you.

It's easier to maintain a straight line and turn your head if you just choose the machine that's behind what your trying to see. It's motivating also, chase it my friend........chase it.........

WIII that plcement strategie was hilarious! Good sound advice but still hilarious!

Hey next year maybe I'd be ready to come down for some fishing and some of your MMA training? LOL

Absolutely, I have to warn you before you make the trip though that I'm terrible at both.
