Deb took these pics while fishing a tournament on Lake Barkley yesterday. Boat caught on fire at the gas dock .... while being towed to a safe place, the rope burns in 2 and the burning boat drifts into some slips catching a houseboat and jetski on fire. One person flown to Vanderbuilt Hospital and one person missing.

A celebration is being planned for the destruction of the jetski !!!  ;D

I've witnessed something similar years ago when I was a lobsterman.

We came across a sixty-five foot dragger ablaze about thirty miles offshore.

Called the Coast Guard, gave them the loran bearings then headed directly into the breeze, and found the only person who had been on the boat in a cork life raft.

After getting him and his raft aboard, we went back to his burning vessel.  It was a wood boat.  When we got back, the wheelhouse had fallen into the hull and you could see the fire through the spaces between the planks that had burned away.

The Coast Guard arrived and tried to put the fire out.  Why, I have no idea.  When the water from their deck mounted, remote operated water cannon hit the fuel tanks, they ruptured and exploded.

It looked like a nuclear explosion.  A column of flame shot into the air with a black smoky mushroom cloud at the top.

Out of the mushroom spewed tiny chunks of smoking wood, spiraling like tendrils back to the ocean.  Then, it was over.

No dragger, no fire.  Nothing but an oil slick and small chunks of wood on the surface of the sea.

I have a question regarding the red "patrol" boat in the photos.  What's up with its outboards.  They are facing in different directions.

Burning 10,000,000 jet-skis may clear off my home lake, it'll be close though.  

I'll agree that jet skis are annoying, but I rode one in the barneget bay last week and it was fun as hell.  

Wow I hope they find the missing person.

Hope all are ok, but those are some photos!  I have no problems with pwc's or their riders. But i do have a beef with moronic pleasure boaters and nitwit kayakers that seem to think it's ok to go anywhere they want. (as within 15' of my boat)   later

Here's an update ..... the missing person (body) has been found, the lady Lifefighted to Vandy is listed as stable, one boat destroyed, jetski destroyed, rescue towboat destroed, and 2 other boats damaged.

Reminds me of an accident that happened at the gas dock/floating bar/floating restaurant a number of years ago at Lake of the Ozarks.

The gas guy came to fill the main gas storage tank up on the hill above the marina and forgot to open the vent on the tank.  The tank ruptured spilling hundreds of gallons down the hill and into the water at the marina.  A spark from somewhere lit the whole thing up.  Everybody managed to get off the dock and boats but the whole place, along with a few boats got burnt to a crisp.

That incident changed the way gas docks operated from that point on.  Major upgrades to land based fuel storage for gas docks had to be made to remain a viable, on-lake fuel seller.  Costly.  

Yikes, scary stuff for sure.

Looks like the tow boat just about had the burning vessel in the clear only to become a victim itself. The tow boat operator(s) and they guys in the small rowboat (looks as if they attempted to tow also) are heros in my eyes, it could have been far worse.

So sorry to hear a person lost their life. Prayers to familes of the involved people.
