I've seen that a couple times. Turns out the place I was fishing was right next to a Department of Transportation site and they were dumping roadkill deer into the water.

Just wait a couple weeks, it'll start to smell something awful.

I ran into one while wading a stream, it was about 3 feet next to me when I saw it. Was half skeletal by then, freaked the heck out of me.

One time I was wading and I almost stepped on a rock which turned out to be a dead beaver. Yeah, I know that "ewww, icky!!" feeling.

years back I used to love to frog gig. One night @ 2am I felt something brush against my leg while wading frogging this golf course pond. Looked almost like this.

Yep I was drinking some water out of a stream one day and I found one about 100 yards upstream.
