Older model trucks

Featured Replies

I have a 1979 F150, supercab, long bed. I need to sell it. It is not going to win any beauty pageants but, it runs pretty good. Where on the internet can I go to find out about how much a vehicle like this is worth? I have a couple of people interested but, I have no idea how much to ask for. Any ideas?

When you get to trucks of that age there is no real set price.  The set price is an agreement between what you and the buying party thinks it's worth.  Chances are it's gonna but sub $1000 for 2wd and sub $3000 for 4wd.

I had a 93 F150 xtra cab,2wd, long bed I sold 2 yrs ago for 1500.00...paint was oxidized, body was in good shape, interior was cloth, no tears, had a new sony stereo..custom wheels. 5.8 liter v8 auto 153k.

Take what you can.. ;)

Less than a $1000.  Think about the potential sales market.  Teens wanting a first vehicle, somebody interested in restoring the thing or somebody who has property and wants a truck for farm type chores.  It certainly isn't a vehicle you'd want as an everyday driver.

There is a lady that works for a horse track that would like it to carry bales of hay and saddles. I'm not trying to get something unrealistic but, don't want to give it away either. I had figured no more that $1000, no less than $500.

Ask Matt 5.0 about the durability of F-100's...

The 1979 model F150 is a unique year, in that it was the only year it was made that way.  Every other year was different, not knowing where you are it is difficult to say how much the truck is worth.  Where I live your truck would be worth a couple of grand easy, for some reason right now it is the most sought after year here.  You see many restored 79 around here.  I have one that used to be my grandfather's it caught on fire after he passed away, so the engine compartment is burned out, the dashe needs replace, the duct work and completely rewired.  I've been offered a grand for it, but I'm restoring it, so I'll end up paying a grand or better for another one that doesn't run and salvaging parts.  It is definitely gonna depend on your local market.

Good point re: the 79's....could be a potential gem in the future...complete restoration could fetch a nice amount down the road.. ;)
