Fishing Flukes

Featured Replies

Hey guys a buddy just gave me some flukes.  I never used them before or even read much about them.  I looked up one article on the site and did get much info other then how to rig it.  Can you guy's tell what you use and how to fish it?  If you guys have a link I would love to read it.  What is the difference from a fluke to a super fluke? Can I wacky rig it? Thanks guys

Super Fluke is bigger.

You already know to rig it weedless/weightless.  Now all you gotta do is fish it near or over cover like you would a regular jerkbait.  Experiment with cadences, but usually a jerk jerk pause works pretty good.  That's the main way to fish it.  You can work them on many, many different rigs.

It seems most of it has been covered, I'll just add that I prefer them weedless rigged with no weight at all on a good sinking line (fluorcarbon)

Hey thanx guys.  Well About the Fluro I use Mono on both set ups is this ok?  I read that I could just put a leader of Fluro on is this correct? I'll search the threads later I did earlier but I didn't see much.

Mono works fine.  I use it a lot.  The fluke won't sink as fast or be as sensative, but it works for me.

I use flouro because it sinks quicker than any other line and I don't like fishing flukes with ANY type of weight (it affects the action in a negative way imo) If you like mono stick with it I'm just really impatient so I'll take any short cut possible and i like fishing them subsurface, with occasional surface pops, but only when i want it to. when i use braid or mono for flukes, i have a tough time waiting for it to sink, and even when it does i only get 7-10 twitches before it pops out.

i only use bass assasins on 5/0 red owner offset shank straight hooks (best action imo) rainbow trout 98% of the time, this is the only plastic i don't use wide bent hooks

I was thinking wacky would be great b/c it would look like a dieing bait fish. I'm fired up I am going to start working on mastering this bait I hear great things.  Do you guy's use BC or spinning? Can I put fluro on my BC? I am still learinig BC and I'm good with the mono line. Will switching to fluro effect my BC reel? So when I work this bait I give it a little swim action with alot of twiches? How deep should it go?

The other evening, while fishing the Super Fluke, the nose got torn off by the 4th bass. Since I was leaving, shortly, and rather than rig up a new one, I just turned the hook and buried the point in the center and cast out. I got the most vicious bit of the evening, and the largest bass.

Now I know what to do when my flukes get torn up. ;)

Holy cow I ended up doing that with trick sticks and I start caching them. There has been a few times were I wasn't catching much but a few small ones and I just wanted to try a wacky but didn't bring the hook so I used the offset EWG and I started to hit them one after another It was great and I was telling myself as I turned the bait on the hook that I was a idiot but it worked LOL
