my mom got a new Cannon PowerShot 12MP camera for christmas, and i've been fooling around with it. its got really great macro (all these shots are macro) and it even has an aquarium setting!

Looking good, make sure you play around with the camera and read the directions.  I know my camera has a ton of different settings, these settings can matter a lot when you're taking pictures of things that are moving or in darker places.

I have a canon a590is, it's fine for snapshots, for serious stuff I take out my fuji finepix7000 or my old reliable canon ftb 35 mm which is 35 year olds.

The problem I had with the a 590 was battery drain, sent back to canon twice, they cleaned and sent it back saying it was fine and I should be using using canon brand batteries over any other leading brand, which I discounted figuring a battery was a battery.

Sent it back after warranty telling them to keep and not to contact me, instead they sent me a repair bill, lol about $100.  I called and after some negotiation they again repaired and agreed to send me canon batteries with a canon charger free.  THEY WERE RIGHT......BATTERIES LAST OVER 2 WEEKS WITHOUT  A CHARGE!, compared to 2 days with duracell.

Powershot SD940? If so, that's what my gf got me for Christmas, and it's an amazing point-and-shoot camera, especially for its size. Love it. Takes hi-def videos too.
