I got into wildlife photography back in the days of 35mm film. I started out with a Nikon N2000 when I was 15. It was full manual and I loved it. I was the photographer for my high schools yearbook. It was fun I'll have to go dig in my parents attic to find the pics but I got some great stuff back then. Since I got married and had kids I've been taking pics of them and not so much of the outdoors. It's alot of fun and one day I hope to have time to get back into it.

Back in the early and mid eighties I also shot for our yearbook.  Always had a Canon AE1 in hand loaded with b/w 400.  It was cool back then as we developed our own.

My wife is the photographer.  I only really take a camera with me to the lake.

I think she's great, but I am somewhat biased...

I started at the age of 11 with dad's old Olympus 35mm.  EVERYTHING was manual on that thing.  I had a separate light meter I would use to calculate exposures. I shot on Kodachrome back then (yup, slides). 

I bought a Minolta AE700 in my late teens, and used it though several photography classes in college.  I learned the wonders of darkroom techniques then, and it opened up a whole new world for me.  I won a few competitions in fact.

I still have both cameras.

Since then I've gone through a few different digital cameras, and use Photoshop as my "darkroom" now.  Here's a couple of shots I took:

alpster and j francho what is your favorite lens that you use?

The one that gets the job done, LOL.  I have a 17-40 f/4L that I use a ton, a 28 f/1.8 that's a cracker.  70-200 f/2.8L IS is awesome, if not a little heavy.

These are a couple I took on a recent vacation I took to St. John. I just love the second one. Makes me feel like I'm right there, instead of 15 degree CT weather. The first one was taken with a 15 second shutter speed. Both with my Canon SD940 point & shoot. Love that camera.

Get the hood, its a glare sucker.  No better for low light shots that capture more of the scene than a 50.

I have a bunch of lenses...35 f/2.8, 50 f/1.4, 100 f/2.8 Macro, Tammy 28-300 (great vacation lens), 18-55 beater lens, 70-200 f/4L, 85 f/1.2 (expensive paper weight), and a couple others I forgot about.  The ones above, and the macro probably spend the most time on the body.

John specializes in what he told me was "japanese fish photography".

Show them some examples of it, John.

He can make a 3-pound largie look bigger than that new japanese world-record fish.

AFS 18-55 wide tele

AFS 55-200 tele

AFS 75-300 tele

I like them all depending on the subjects, light etc.

I'm not a great photographer, but I love taking/editing pictures.
