How can there be ice, speed and no padding around poles?

I watched the video before they pulled it, man was he moving.  I can only say that I don't think he felt any pain.  Sad deal.

They just showed the video on the nightly news!!! And kept replaying it ...in slow mo and everything...Maybe its just me but i don't think the nightly news should be showing a young man dying. Anything for ratings i guess :-[

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

When has network TV ever displayed a sense of decency?

whoa, I just saw the video too. It seems pretty stupid not to have any padding or walls or anything along the track.

At 90 mph I don't think padding would have made a difference

I just saw it several times on NBC.  Very, very tragic.  And very graphic.  Out of respect for the family and countrymen, I think they ought to refrain from showing it so much.  They played it like 4 times in the span of minutes.

but if they put a wall the whole way down the track then he would have slid along it. Even if he banged against it a few times it wouldn't be a 90-0mph instant stop.

This afternoon just about all the sites said that they had pulled it because of proprietary rights, I'm guessing it was only proprietary until the money was right.  :(

Very tragic incident.  Unfortunately, the TV ratings on the night of running the luge contest will be sky high.

A little plexiglass along the edge of that stretch would help.

During the Viet Nam War every network and most newspapers updated the body & injury count daily, that is no longer done.

Very Tragic,I agree with everyone else. They shouldn't show it out of respect for the family.

They are calling the accident human error and have no plans on changing the track

This years games seem cursed.  The torch malfunction last night just adds to it.
