Credit Card Fraud - Again ! !

Featured Replies

  • Super User

So I had the distinct pleasure of making all the calls and changing all my accounts around because some scum bag got a hold of my debit card number and went to town.

My card has a big "Total Security Protection" logo on it - hehe - not so much.

But here's a question - why do they always buy PORN Memberships with stolen card numbers ???

My bank did handle it quickly and efficiently.

Two things to get from this

1. Set up a automatic/e-mail alert with your bank so you are notified ASAP whenever your card is used.

2. Find out who to call and what to do BEFORE you need to cancel a card because while your looking it up - your credit limit / checking account is getting maxed out quickly. Chances are you'll get it all back, I did, but the 7-10 working days it takes to get a new card is a bummer and that's nothing compared to the fun you'll have trying to fix your credit report.

Rant over - I'm good now.

I had paid for my newspaper subscription over the phone via my debit card..2 days later, Penny's called me ( we had a Penny's CC) to say my 50" LCD TV would be delivered tomorrow. I'm like wth..I didn't order any tv..So, I called my bank, they had a new account and card for me within 3 days. Also, I notified the cops, seems this fool was dumb enough to continue to work for the paper, where he was promptly arrested.. :)

Yeah, it was pretty cool when the Cops called to say they arrested the guy at the newspaper office...lol Btw, it is a local newspaper. Oh, and I did cancel my subscription, and never used my debit card for paying over the phone again.

I don't understand why it took your bank 7-10 days to get you a new card..?

How about this one...

I try to log on to Bank of America to pay my CC bill. And I mis-type my password or something, and it won't let me on. So I pay it by phone, no biggie I'm thinking.

2 days later I get an email saying someone tried to access my account, and they want to update my info for safety reason. Click on this link to do so. Ok No problem...that was me mis-typing my password.

So I go to a BOA site and re-enter all my info, SS number and everything.

I find some charges on my card. The big one was British Airway tickets! Anyway, they wipe everythin off and I think they caught the guy, cause he bought plane tix and showed up to take his trip. Dumb ***!

Here it was a fake website. EXACTLY like BOA I mean dead on nutz the same...except for the address in the Explorer tool bar.

A few weeks later I got another email for the same thing...I forwarded it on to BOA, as per their instuctions. And they supposedly shut the website down.

Be wary of that scam guys!

Gee, do ya think that paper would have printed the story of their employee getting nabbed for fraud ? ;D

I can hear the conversation in the editor's office...."Uh, let's not run that one ".....

Got one of those in my email yesterday "claiming" someone had attempted to access my online account. Always check the link properties of the website they're attempting to direct you to.

In this case, it WAS NOT BoA despite the fact that when you clicked on it you got an exact representation of a BoA webpage.

This was also BOA and that's the snail mail method. I could have it faster (and would have if it were actually necessary) but I also get to pay the extra scratch for the FedEx or whatever they would use.
