Slipknot's bassist Paul Gray found dead

First off, those who don't like metal, leave your negative comments about this genre on your own thread.

Des Moines, Iowa; May 24, 2010 -- A local hotel worker found the bassist dead this morning. Paul Gray, known as #2, or "The Pig" in the self-titled years, the lively bassist from Los Angeles who relocated with family to Des Moines and joined Slipknot and has played for the entire Slipknot career up to this point. Paul had a darker side to his life, dealing with drugs and alcohol abuse. It was announced on his MySpace page this year that he was expecting a child with his wife Brenna. Life looked on the up for Paul.

While currently under investigation, preliminary reports from a source at the scene indicate a drug overdose.

I first saw Slipknot at Dotfest 2 in 1997, shortly after they formed and right before they were signed. Clown came out and moshed with the crowd, and Pig had his pig mask on and was WICKED on the bass!

Paul will be missed.

I've always wanted to see these guys in concert and they were one of the first metal band I started listening to 8-10 years ago.  Sad to see artists go like this.  Although the autopsy hasn't been done, it seems to obvious sign is overdose  :-/

Curious as to what the band will do now...

I really enjoyed their first 2 albums. After that it kinda turned into Stone Sour v2.0 imo.

I saw them live with Lamb and Shadows Fall in '04 I think. It was an AWESOME show. All three bands put on a great live performance and Randy sang with Brian and Shadows Fall doing a Dime tribute. It was awesome.

That sucks, never got a chance to see them live but always liked their music.  I remember actually listening to the fist album and being blown away by some of the songs, I hadn't really been into metal before that, lots of hardcore punk but nothing like them.  Really helped to bring Nu-Metal up front.

Saw em live in 98 with Coal Chamber and Machine Head. Needless to say Slipknot stole the show and was the most intense mosh I ever been caught in.

Sad to hear this but on the other hand things like this don't surprise me to hear.

+1

Even though I like some nu-metal I could never really get into their music besides a few songs off of their first album. Kinda went downhill fast after that.

Still sad to hear though.

I saw them at one of those 30 band shows once. Insane. Was never a fan, but i'll mosh all day long, and that was a good one.

Respect.

anyone know what the cause of death was? :-?
