Chipping of spinnerbaits

Featured Replies

Alright fellows, I purchased a terminator spinnerbait the other day, and after one fishing trip the paint is chipping off of the head of the spinnerbait! About half of the paint is gone from around the eyes, making it look like a lead color. My ? is does this affect the way that fish will strike at it?? Do they actually recognize the chipped paint hendering them to bite it. I guess this might be a confidence thing, but i just need some opinions??? Thanks!

I think that means you're getting the lure where it needs to be...in areas of cover....rocks, wood, etc.  Most of my spinner baits have paint knocked off of them.

The fish don't care about chipped paint , just keep on throwing it and catching fish.

I don't think it makes any difference, but a quick fix is nail polish.

8-)

That's how all my jigs end up.  That means that I'm fishing it where the fish are down in the rip rap.

I have not noticed any change in effectiveness as the paint slowly diminishes to next to nothing.

The terminator T1's probably have the nicest paint job I've seen on a spinnerbait, but it does chip off quickly.  The good news is I have not noticed any difference in its ability to catch fish.

i know with jigs and spinnerbaits that I make I hardley ever paint them. Lead is silver, baitfish are silver, so I think it's a good thing.  Fishing in the same boat with a partner fishing painted spinnerbaits, There wasn't much difference.  The more beat up the better!!!

You will be hard pressed to find ANY jig or spinnerbait that won't chip the minute it comes into contact with rocks.
