Don't know if your serious or not, but I think you have to let the dog pick you.

My current dog .... went to get a small female chocolate lab. Ended up getting the biggest (now 110 lbs) male yellow. He picked me and I couldn't say no. He came and plopped right down on my feet. Buddies ever since. Great choice!!!

Hopefully its not the meth one that picks you, ;D ;D

Have you ever thought about English Setters?  That will be my next dog...  Calm, smart, and are amazing to see them work.

My buddy has a awesome lab that we bird hunt with.  We can hunt doves in/near standing corn without having to worry about losing a single bird because of that dogs hunting ability.

Whenever I decide to get another dog it will probably be another Doberman.  I've had two already and absolutely loved them.  Such a fantastic family animal.  If not a Dobie, another Basset Hound.  I love those goofy lookin dogs.

A third that I'd love is an English Bulldog.  I've never owned one, but they just look so cool.  I've heard some horror stories with skin problems because of the amount of skin folds around the face though.

Thanks for the input guys, but that was definately a joke. Those who know me, know that I'm only interested in one breed.

Is that a shorthair or an english pointer?  I think it is a shorthair but the picture is small.

I have a solid liver GSP that has been a trial of patience his first 2 years but now he grew up and has become an amazing bird dog and my buddy.

I have had a loaner phone since I wrecked mine, and the alarm does not work but he wakes me up 5 minutes later licking my arm hanging off the bed.  They are a very intelligent, but hyper breed.

English Setters are great dogs, but they're too high maintainence for my taste. I would have to shave it before I could take it hunting. Labs just don't have the endurance for the type of hunting I do.

It's an English Pointer. GSP would be my second choice.

I'm partial to terriers. We have a Westie (West Highland White Terrier). Much like someone mentioned above, he plopped his head on my hand when I was driving him home for the first time and we backe best buds ever since. I love that d**n dog and I will probably always have a Westie at all times.

I used to take him fishing a lot but he would always find a way to get filthy. He would either roll in it on purpose or his terrier instincts would take over. One time, with other people in the lake, he decided he had had enough with some canadian geese and chased them a good 30 feet into the lake. He went in after them too, much to the surprise of the menly men who would never imagine a little white "cute" dog picking a fight with an entire flock of geese haha!

Now I only take him when he is about to get bathed that same day.

Any way you end up going, you can't really go wrong with any doggy!

I agree with this.  I went to the humane society to get my dog.  I had my heart set on a young puppy, but ended up with a 9 month old, who was going to be put down the next day cuz she had been there so long.  As I walked through the kennels looking at all the dogs, they were all barking like mad, except for one who couldn't take her eyes off me as I walked down the aisle.  Even when I was walking up the other aisle I noticed her in her small outdoor pen watching me walk around.  At that point I went and got the people and took her home.  I was out of town the last two days for work, which is very rare.  Wife said she stayed by the door all night waiting for me to get home.

Why are the English Setters high maintenance?  I'm not trying to be smart, I just want to know so when it comes time to get another dog I know which ones to get.

Is it because their hair is long and can get covered in cockaburs?

I am either looking at English Setters or pointer.  I like that the English setter doesn't get to far ahead while hunting and are a little calmer than a pointer but I guess it doesn't really matter because both point...

I had a Brittany for 17 years. Did get cockaburs in his hair at times. Great hunting dog, even better friend. He could catch a trout in his mouth and drop him at my feet to tell me "fishing ain't no big deal. Never regretted having him, think about him almost every day. Crossed the rainbow bridge 20 years ago.

Yes, I was referring to the long hair. They would get absolutely covered with stickers in some of the areas I hunt. Also, I like a dog that will cover a lot of ground when necessary. I'm not knocking setters, they're great dogs. They're just not for me.

My best friends  ;),  about 90% of my heaviest income comes from English Bulldog owners who also think they look cool, skin problems ? man, that 's barely the tip of the iceberg.

About which dog from those four ...... hmmmmm, don 't know, the Meth lab looks interesting, don 't think it 's gonna be crazier than a Smooth Coat Fox Terrier I used to own.

I wonder if that Meth lab would explode if you held an open flame up to it? :)

Yes, and that's how you make him go "Woof!"
