overgrown lake (with underwater weeds/moss)

Featured Replies

What's up everyone? I just had a quick question.

The lake that I fish quite a bit has become vastly over grown with weeds to where about 1/3 of it is cut off to boats (even jon boats). What I'm wanting to know is how would you guys fish a lake like this? I've tried throwing spinning baits, lipless crankbaits, carolina rigs, shaky heads, jigs, surface plugs/poppers, shallow swimming baits, and buzz baits. The only one I have caught a fish on in the last 2 weeks is the surface plug/popper, I have had hits on the lipless crankbaits as well but the hooks get covered in weeds that the fish don't get hooked and this also prevents me from really covering water and finding the fish. So...I was just curious as to if you all had any suggestions for me in this situation.

Thanks

have you tried frogs early or late in the day over tops of the grass mats. also have you tried flipping the grass mats with creatures, jigs or worms?

I would fish the frog anytime of day as well as large worms and jigs. I would scan the outer edges of the grass for any ditches or underwater points that lead out to deeper water. Also, move out away from the grass line and search for scatered grass patches in deeper water. These will hold the larger fish and do not get hammered by the everyday fishermen. Good luck

I say throw some of the ragetail products over the slop, they work greeat for me in the heavy slop.
