Fishing in the rain?????

Featured Replies

It's been sunny and warm here in the Pacific Northwest for the last couple of weeks. When I say warm, I'm talking the upper 60's to lower 70's. That's about as hot as it gets on the Oregon coast usually. It's supposed to rain lightly for the next couple of days so I was wondering how that affects the bass fishing and what lures you guys might recomend. It's only supposed to get up to 60 or so.

I'm going to Tenmile Lake. A coastal lake with 2000 acres or so, surface temp 69, fairly clear water, lots of docks, downed timber, clean and well defined weedlines with mostly clear, hard bottom and one large rocky point that goes deep not far from the shoreline. I'll be on the water by before 6:00 am.

I really need to get on the lake tomorrow morning. It's a personal thing. My brother passed away last night and I just need to be alone on the water with my thoughts.    ;)

With that in mind, rain or no rain, fish or no fish, I'm going on the water. On the lake is where I belong tomorrow. It's my meditaion.

 Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your brother.  I have had some of the best fishing in the rain.  Go catch some fish!

Topwaters are a good choice in the rain.

Sorry to hear of this loss, a family member is always a tough one.  Condolences from the BR Staff.

Sorry to hear about your brother but here is a little advice to make your day on the water better. I love Zoom's  baby brush hog plastics, texas rigged. Junebug with size 3 hook. Also I use a lot of jigs when its fairly hot out, work fallen trees and so on. I would throw some spinner baits to see how aggressive the fish are that day and work from there. Good luck and if you dont have those Baby Brush Hogs get them, you wont be disappointed, they are my go to bait. Good luck. 8-)

Hey, I know what you are going through.  I lost one of mine when I was 18.  Just hang in there.  Fishing is good for ya.

Fishing in the rain is a lot of fun.  The drops on the water breaks up your image so you don't have to worry about spooking the fish so much.

If its possible, I would try fishing under overhangs too.  The rain knocks lots of little critters into the lake and the bait fish come and feed on them.  The bass usually ain't too far behind.  Small crankbaits work good here as do plastic worms.

Something came up this morning so I wasn't able to go to the lake I wanted to and I got a later start than I had expected so I went to a local lake not really known for it's bass fishing. I was going on the water regardless but I caught a couple of smaller bass, it just sprinkled a bit and overall, it was a good day.

Tomorrow I'm headed out at 4:00 am to fish the lake I was intending today. It's supposed to be overcast and cooler. Lows tonight around 50 with highs tomorrow only getting to 63 or so.

I'm really looking forward to it so keep the suggestions coming.

                  Thanks again

I am extremely sorry to hear that i can't even imagine loosing my brother!

Sorry to hear that.

Hope a successful trip will make you feel better.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

As for fishing in the rain: the only guarantee is that things will get a little damp. Do whatever you do at other times to catch fish and you will do just fine. The bass live in the water - they don't know it's raining.

Well, I did go fishing today and it was good for the soul. I caught a few fish. Big ones too. I had a reel die on me so I grabbed another rod that only had 8 lb mono on it. 2 cast later, something broke me off like I wasn't even there. Wish I could have at least had a look at it. Believe it or not, I even caught a steelhead. This lake has a small creek that runs out to the ocean. As it turns out, the sun came out and it got pretty warm.

Anyway, it was a good day.

I'm going tomorrow as well.
