You've got to admit. Sometimes, there's nothing better than a nice mess of catfish for supper. A couple weeks ago, I did pretty well with chicken livers. Yesterday, I decided to give Berkley's Blood bait a try--needless to say, we had chicken for supper. I've used chicken gizzards in the past with decent luck, but I think the livers are better. Any other ideas???

Right, bluegill.Live and scuffed up or even just the head.That along with shiners,chub minnows,and baby suckers.

iv always just used chicken livers. works well. i dont eat catfish tho. i only eat saltwater fish as im a big saltwater fan, i fish for bass more than anything else tho.

Cheap hot dog wieners were always a favorite lure when I was a kid.

Other than that, night crawlers, chicken livers, and cutbait have worked good for me.  It seems to vary from one area to another though, so I dunno.

Chicken liver and cut bait are my choices.

Live shad works good around here.

Shrimp with a heavy scent (By using a shrimp scent/spray) works pretty good.

In my area, we're not allowed to use bluegill, or any other live finfish for that matter. So we use minnows, chicken liver, frozen cutbait and prepared baits. I'm a dough/stink/dip bait kinda guy. Danny Kings, Hogwild & Charlies works pretty good.

The few catfish i have caught, were off white bread on a treble, or circle hook.

the worse it smells the better it'll work. powerbait sucks for catfish, in my experience.

throwing some shad, chicken livers, blood, hot dogs - and anything else you can think of that would stink - into a blender and putting them in an ice tray with a treble hook eye sticking out the top works well. the blood is an attractant, but it's also for consistency, so use as much as you need to make the bait stick together well. once it's frozen you're good to go. throw it in a cooler with some ice or dry ice and once you cast it out it will slowly start exuding into the water and create a blood trail for them to hone in on much like a shark. as long as you have the right consistency it won't totally melt and fall apart, though, so it lasts a while on your hook.

just another gross suggestion for a gross fish. they sure do taste good if you filet them right, though.
