Whats Good For Striped or Hybrids

Featured Replies

Whats good to use for striped and hybrid bass? It's in an old pit relatively small but crystal clear.

I dont fish for them but my uncle does. He uses Cotton Cordell Redfins, white bucktail jgs, and live bait.

Striper are my main target in the summer. I use live bait (gizzard shad, threadfin shad and skipjack). My best artificials have been topwater (Spooks) when they're busting, big jerkbaits (LC Pointer 128) the rest of the time.

big jerk baits have worked real well in the past for me. caught a 9 lb. hybrid on a big husky jerk last fall. some of the hardest fighting fish ive ever hooked into! :)

in line spinners and zara spooks

Topwater plugs (spooks, Sammy's, pencil poppers, etc).

Big in line spinners (Mepps, Blue Fox, Rooster Tail #3 or up)

Big jerk baits (XRap, Pointers, etc)

Gotta find em schooling or chasing bait.  They roam at all times and never sit still.  You have to collide with them to catch them.

Live bait is always the best trolled but I don't fish that way so I don't catch as many as the guys who do it that way.  Live bait is the most effective way to catch stripers though.

Around here, jigging spoons and tail spinners (Little George or a local one called a Humdinger) are the lures of choice for Hybrids in deep water. Sassy Shad or similar for schooling fish on top.
