Swimbait sujestions?

Featured Replies

Well I finaly got the money together to get a swimbait combo. Right now I'm planning on getting Mattlures, but if anyone else has other swimbait brands that are good I open to sujestions. I'm look at something around 2oz, but my rod will be able to go up to 6oz. I need something that can handle 8-13lb bass, with  a good strong, sharp hook. (or hooks)

Thanks

Matt

I've had good luck with the Platinum Series (no fish yet, but enough blowups to make me invest in new underwear  :-[ ).

They are a bit fragile, the 6" moreso than any of the others.  I have two 8" and a 10", all three have been bitten by bass and musky/pike.  The toothy critters can tear one up quickly.

There are magnets on the belly to hold the hooks up.  Only comes with the front hook, I added a Mustad 4X 3/0 treble to the rear (used 25 lb. Big Game).

With your first name, you've got to go with Matt's Lures ;)  Caught my first swimbait Bass and my PB on one.

OK I orderd a mattlures panfish to get me started. I'll be getting some other swimbaits next month, and I'll consider the other baits mentioned.

Thanks for the tips guys. ;)

I use Mattlures baby bass.  They have caught many bass for me, even some bass the same size of the lure lol.  Sometimes I try Storm, but they dont seem to produce as much.

3:16 bait company makes a great swimbait called the mission fish.  It can be rigged weedless.  I've never caught anything really big on one, but seveal in the 3 to 6 lb class.

good luck and have fun.

I have been using the Mega bait chubby series swimbaits, but I cannot find them at Gander Mountain any more.I just bought a Reaction strike Bass harrasser 8" trout from Tackle warehouse.I can't wait until spawn, post spawn to see what it will catch for me. Ivan

Mattlures and the 3:16 Mission Fish are the only baits mentioned that I would use!

I would definately get the new Spro BBZ-1 in silver fish.  That thing is sooooo wicked.  It is gonna be a real big fish producer and it swims flawlessly.  Its pretty cheap at $40 to.

I have a huddlestong in hitch color (silver/black)  This is a big bait the sink rate is 5. So it has a nice slow fall.  I have Loomis BCR 875 for heaving this baby and other big baits.  I don't fish them often, but when I bring the big stick I fish them faithfully.

It's a whole different world.  Completely different mindset and outlook.  Personally I have to be in the "big fish zone" to fish with them. It's big, heavyweight, and slow.

Right now my home lake is way to low and weedy for anything but the mission fish.

but that will change.

go get em.

OK thanks for the tips guys. I'm kinda on a budjet though so anything over $20 is a little steep. Mattlures Baby Bass are dirt cheap compaired to most baits, and they seem to work great from what I hear. I'll probaly fish them and the Sunfish models to start out with.

Does Fish Chris have anything to say opon this topic?

Thanks

If you are going less than $20 that is hard to do with most of the better swimbaits. But, I throw the lower priced baits some and even have started to make my own hard swimbaits when I thought others were overpriced or not easy to get. The best baits out there for the money are the ABT Titan/Strike King Kong, Reaction Strike Bass Harasser, any Mattlures bait and the Storm Kickin Minnow. A couple of these are in the $25-$30 dollar range but well worth it. I was real impressed with the Kickin Minnow at $3 for the six inch model. They also make a ten inch model for around $5-$6. I really wished they made an eight inch model  since it would be the perfect size for me. I also got the new Lake Fork Tackle swimbait a couple of days ago and was impressed with it. Its going to sell for $3 in the small size at Walmart.
