odd day out

Featured Replies

Well today i was going to a local fishing lake with hopes of making a quick stop at the bass pro shop..................................which i did.

after browsing the store for about an hour, i decided to try my luck with crappie fishing.  i normally use a baitcaster and fish mainly for BASS.

so i bought a $20 Zebco, closed reel crappie rod/reel combo.  bought a pack of tubes and a 1/16oz jig to go with it and off i went to try my luck

this was just an ironic day out.  i threw out my normal crank/topwater with my baitcaster..................................nothing.  decided to give my crappie rod a try.  who would have thought, i pulled the largest Largemouth out I have caught to date.  it wasnt a 5 pounder or anything like that but definetly a nice one.

wait a minute, arn't crappie rods meant for panfish or small fish of the sort?  dont the bass realize this?

i realize a catch is a catch but i was so expecting a little panfish.............................not a panfish X10!!!!  very cool though

heading out again in the morning and we'll see what happens then!!

:D :D :D

That bass just made a mistake , he didn't realize until it was too late that you were fishing for crappie.

I've caught numerous bass while crappie fishing with tubes. It's basically a finesse technique that can catch some serious sizes of bass. I've bass fished beside my dad while crappie fishing without a bite but he is catching them one after another. I've not done it intentionally yet but have been wanting to go out bass fishing like this

back in january of this year I caught a 6 1/2 pound bass on a 2" crappie minnow. Surprised the crap out of me when it started stripping drag.

My biggest surprise when fishing for crappie was a 36in tiger musky. Not sure why he bit on the little 2in grub but turned out to be a fun fight. The bonus was it was the first fish I caught in my boat.
