Featured Replies

A few buddies and I are headed to WV for a day of musky huntin'. What tips or advice can you guys give me?

Lures? Structure? Depth?

My plan right now consists of churning the water with 3 or 4 different baits. Yeah, some help would be great.

check this video, it's great for helping to figure out river muskie

My plan is wake baits, bigger spinners, and that bigass green custom crank.

I'm not too familiar with the musky fishing in West Virginia,

but read that the stockings in Buckhannon river & New River have been highly successful.

Based on the musky clubs in New York (St Lawrence Area), "big musky plugs"

have been the top producers. However, in the Hayward District of Wisconsin,

"in-line bucktail spinners" have yielded the most pounds.

The musky is an apex predator, so "trolling" is generally preferred due to the coverage it offers.

Read everything Larry Dahlberg writes on muskies, he cranks them up like their gumdrops.

Location of course, depends on seasonal period.

Moving water or a lake?

My first choice would be double bladed bucktails followed by jerkbaits.  If you don't have any double bladed spinnerbaits, go with the biggest single blade mepps you can find.  For jerk baits I like the hellhounds and mantas.  I would also try some swimbaits.
