swivel or no swivel?

Featured Replies

When fishing with soft plastics such as senkos and fat ikas etc, should I be using a swivel on my line to help iliminate line twist? If so, would tieing a swivel to my line, then adding another 12" of line that is tied to the hook work best?

I will be using berkley xt 10 lb line.

Im a no swivel guy to me it's just somthing else that could fail when I hook that monster bass. The only time I use swivels are on caralina rigs.

It's unanimous. No swivel here either.

I only use a swivel on a rig I am trolling, on baits that have an inline cable construction-designed to spin or when chunking in current (saltwater).

Never in fresh water.

I used to use swivels for everything and had myself convinced that it was helping with line twist. I was wrong ;) KVD line conditioner has done the most for me with controlling bird's nests on my spinning rig. Thank goodness I finally saw the light. Two less knots and better control over casts since I can reel the lure higher.

A late X13 ;)

snaps for cranks

barrel swivels for c-rigs

otherwise tie directly to the lure/hook

X16. swivels are nice for people like my dad who can't see the line well enough to tie. but i don't know how many i've seen break while on the lure.

X17. Swivels are just another link in the line that can fail. Not to mention two additional knots.
