Walleye Trolling Tips?

Featured Replies

A buddy of mine recently bought a boat for use on Lake Erie and we'll going to start trying to do some trolling for walleyes. Any suggestions on what lures/techniques to use?

have you tried the dipsy divers yet and "sutton spoons" for those eyes?  It works here in the South.  About the only thing that did work this year. 8-)

Rusty get some 800 series reef runners. They dive down 28 feet on 10lb mono or 30lb braid. You can troll them straight line or with boards. Rapala husky jerks deep divers & rapala taildancers work well too. The huskys run about 15-18 deep. The taildancers will run 20 feet in the TDD-9 & the TDD-11 run 30 feet deep. You can troll 1.8 to 2.4 mph when the waters warm & slow down when it gets cold.

We have walleye in a lake back home and every once in awhile I will troll for them at night when I'm with my dad.  Usually a little break from a slow night of fishing.  I have caught two in the last few years, don't do it that much, one on a Norman DD22 and one on a Strike King Series 3.  We straight line, no boards, deep diving cranks with depths relative to where we are fishing.

I'm pretty sure that it's a little different here than at Erie so I don't think I'm much help.  Shiny baits seem to work well
