letting senkos sit in the sun

Featured Replies

My friend is convinced that if he leaves the senkos bent up in the sun

they have better action. I think that it just sweats the salt right out of

them. I will say this though. They do seem to keep the action, just

doesnt sit well with me. Just wondering other peoples opinions about if

this is a good thing to do with the senkos or if hes just imagining that

this sit in the sun all bent up trick really works. Let me know

I've let senkos sit out (not on purpose), but I didn't really notice any difference

My experience has been that letting a senko sit in the sun in a bent manner, you are going to get less shimmy action to it.  That being said, I could probably believe it if he told you that he gets better action by leaving them sitting in the sun and they are not getting bent.  The sun could possibly be heating the plastic up, making it softer, which could aid in the shimmy action.

x2, they can get soggy and will especially if they get moisture on them or in the pack. They have outstanding action when they are soggy but will fall off the hook like hot butter and they fish will throw them off.

This can be a problem with yamamotos around here with all this humidity in Florida.

You may notice the same effect when you throw one for 20 mins without a bite that it will soak up water and get soggy also.

Senko's are always a hot topic.  Seems like everybody uses them or a knockoff of them.  I know Catt...I KNOW!!! ;)

A senko is the bait I always give to a first time basser  I take out.  I deliberately do not tell them how to rig it.  I just say "put it on the hook"  Guess what?  No matter how they rig it, no matter how they work it they always catch fish.  Not alot of baits can make that claim.

There aren't many places in America where you can throw a senko for 20min without a bite!  ;D

Sure there is.Try Florida in August. It's the pits! >;)

I left 10, or so, trick sticks on the dash of my truck for a month or two.  When I finally used them they tore like no other.  Even when I would set the hook on a small fish or grass they would come back tore.  Dang things were green pumpkin too.

I'm sure you know this already, but what your friend is doing is softening the plastic and altering the action.  If he prefers to fish them that way you could suggest he boil them for a short time.  That will soften the plastic in the same manner plus its faster.
