best crankbait for fishing in weeds

Featured Replies

The ponds and lakes I fish are heavily populated with various types of underwater weeds.

The question is what kinds of bills of cranks, size, shape goes through the weeds the best?

I just fish whatever bait will run down deep enough to tick the tops of the weeds, and then quickly float off. Bomber model A's and fat As, Bagley Honey Bees, Excalibur Fat Frees, any bouyant crank. Make sure it runs just deep enough to get to the tops of the weeds and not bury in them.

Ripping a lipless crank like mad over weedbeds also works well.

I tear them up every time I go to my weedy lake with a lipless crank, either a red eye shad or a rat-tl-trap.  I also use a Mann's baby-1 as it will go just over the tops of the weeds.  It is a pretty awesome sight when the lure is right at the boat and a bass slams it from out of the weedbed.

You can fish any crankbait you want in the weeds, just take off the hooks.   :)

My best cranking around weeds is with crankbaits that just tick the weeds.  There are a lot of choices out there for shallow crankbaits that work great over weeds.  Just pick some that will run as deep as the top of the weeds and you should be set.

A Megabass Griffon Zero retrieved over top of weeds.

Try a rapala broken back and twitch it instead of crankin'. I would fish a weedless trick work with no weight. They are very sleek through weeds
