That's so cool. Bass fishing may be the only sport where you can come back at 71 and have a chance.

I hope he does well.  :)

I wonder what he'll have tied on all his Rocket Rods that he has laying on his deck.

He should have to fish with just the items he shills for.  Problem is, he'd still get bit - they'd all be covered in Megastrike, LOL.

I hope he doesn't embarrass himself. Good luck to you Roland. Hope you prove that us old farts can still compete.

Go get em Roland!

I hope he does well.

I've always liked Roland.  Hope he gets out there and puts a hurting on some of the younger guys.

Say what you want about the cheesey stuff he endorses, but the guy can flat out catch fish.  He could back in the day, and I bet he still can.  Go Roland!!!

He coudln't stay away could he haha. But thats awsome he is coming back. Theres really only person I would love to see back In B.A.S.S. actually back in general but will never happen and thats Bryan Kerchal. Many of you probably don't know who he was and probably surprised I know who he is.

I take it that for you, a great gift in the BR Christmas Exchange might come from this page.

In 1994 he got into the BASSMASTER classic through Federation Nation. Qualified for the Classic 2 years in a row finished dead last his first year and won his second year. At 23 he was the youngest ever to do so. Sadly he died in plane crash the same year he won the Classic.

...is back!!!!!!!

I so want him to kick butt. Good Luck Roland! ;D

This news almost seems like it should be on the front page. (where ever that might be)

I remember when he retired, he said that he was fishing a tournament and fished down a stretch of bank. Another young angler came in behind him and caught fish. He said something told him after that, that he didn't feel he could compete. If he couldn't compete at the level at which was needed, he would have to retire. I wonder what changed. He says in the article that he is only so so mentally.

Roland can still catch 'em and it's only three 3-day tournaments. Toho, which is like home field advantage for him, then Norman which is a good numbers lake, then it wraps up at Burley's favorite fishing hole: Douglas.

I think he'll do okay, considering he's probably forgotten more about bass fishing than most of the guys in the Opens know about it now.

I hope he smokes everyone.

Yeah its great that hes back, but the Southern division is tough I know a few guys who fish it and its tough.. I am gonna make 1 this year as a co angler but intend on fishing on the angler side in the next season or so just to meet some of the incrediable anglers who fish on this level and the chance of getting to the BIG SHOW lol

Toho will obviously be his best chance to smoke 'em. Norman will probably be a lot of numbers and come down to culling ounces so I think the whole field will have a legit shot in that one. Douglas in June sets up well for him, he knows a thing or two about a deep crank and a carolina rig.

Norman just plain sucks imo. lol

That other young angler just happen to be Ike.

Not surprised at all.  I have the Bassmaster magazine he was on the cover of after he won the classic in a frame in my garage right next to my rods.  He is a great source of inspiration to me and a great example of how to conduct yourself.

Yea my goal in Life has always been to be like him (except for leaving this world prematurally). He is a prime example of how someone without much experience but with drive, determination, and pride could make their dreams come true.

You watch the 94 Classic highlights and get a glimpse of the gentlemen he was.  On stage after he won, Ray Scott said "Your a hamburger flipper right, that's what you do?"  Bryan just replied with "I don't know, do I still do that?"   Humility is a most admirable trait.

He will have to change his hook phrase.....

From....."son!!"

To......."Grandson!!" ;D ;D ;D

Good luck Roland!!!
